Looks like quite a number of big names have signed up, Bautista, Momoa, Zendaya. Depending on how the movie goes, this could propel their career beyond just the mainstream superhero fare. Bautista's already had quite a good performance going in a small role for Blade Runner 2049, but hopefully, he gets more to do here than just the "stoic muscle" characters he tend to get typecast in.
I'm not really familiar with the original novel, but I did hear that it's a big deal, almost considered a universal masterpiece, but I unfortunately know little about its story or its world. lol Hope this movie could do it justice, and Denis Villeneuve does hold a solid filmography. Even if I wasn't impressed by the Blade Runner sequel, it had a kind of mellow and contemplative vibe that I enjoyed, and I could see how it would suit a story that's as philosophical as Dune, so it might just work out.
Unfortunately, this will probably end up as one of the many highly acclaimed movies I've yet to have time for. Probably will end up on my watchlist for two to three years before I get in the mood for it. Probably earlier if the movie becomes one of those "must-see flawless masterpieces of our time that will blow your mind" among the critic consensus. I have a hard-on for those movies. lol
