As far ass I understand it, all serious research show that global warming is and is going to be a huge problem.

Well then you don't understand it, but don't worry it's not your fault. The popular media is not interested in telling you about the many serious, reputable scientists who think there are some serious questions regarding the science of the issue that need to be answered, before the theory (and it is just a theory) of anthropogenic (human caused) global warming can be accepted in the way it's popularly believed. Let me put it to you this way. It's premature to sell your ocean front property based on what Al Gore tells you.

How are you doing with all the flooding?

Nothing hit my general vicinity. A couple towns over got sh-t on hardcore, and when I left my house the day of all the freaky tornado warnings half of my street was flooded. A couple of my friends basements got screwed, but other than that we missed the sh-tstorm.

FYI, tornadoes scare the crap out of me. To the point of trembling in the bathroom covered in blankets. I'm still kind of reeling from that panic attack.

I post it, because I think it will appeal to you as an atheist. It puts forward the idea that Global Warming is the new religion, and at the same time gives you the basics of the skeptic's argument.

Thanks. I have only read the beginning so far, but will continue later. I tend to like to describe things as religious (my BtVS obsession for example). But this seems a bit like the discussion that is going on right now in Sweden. We have a group (anyone can join, you don't have to be an atheist but most members are) called "humanisterna", for people who prefer to base their beliefs on science and research rather than stories and rules made up by someone (aka religion). Basically, people are comparing this group to religious groups, saying it's the same thing to "believe" in science as to believe in something there is no kind of proof what so ever for.
Again, this springs to mind when reading this... I'm not saying it's fact and there is absolute proof etc., but it sure ain't the same thing as religion.

Well, it didn't rain today, and there were two days last week when it didn't rain. And I remember it stopped for about three hours during the Oxegen festival, but other than that, it's been pretty much raining since May. I'm starting to worry that people living in this country may start to evolve into new and exciting forms to cope.

OMGGGG TORNADO WARNINGS OMGGGGG.

i want to move away. far, far away.

Today was not fun for us Midwesterners. And we're only going to get more storms.

All tornado warnings are is an excuse to go outside and test your meterology skills! You look at the sky, pretend you see something in the dark omnious clouds rotating over your head, and if you're really good at predicting the weather, get the ladder out and climb on the roof to get a better view!

Weather here's been alot cooler than last summer where we had a stretch of like 30 days of triple digit heat. Only probably 10 days have been over 100 degrees, so not too bad. Jan/Feb= mild temps punctuated with a hellish week or two of ice storms and snow (snow on the ground for more than 2 days here is highly unusual), relatively quiet tornado season, May/June brought about 30 days straight of rain, and then heat until last week when a tropical storm came into Oklahoma (wierd) and literally dropped a lake onto one town. LOTS of flooding, about 7-11 inches of rain in places over a period of 6-12 hours, wind damage, etc.

Funny story about that. We have a Native American "rainstick" at my house that is full of little seeds so when you turn it over it sounds like rain. My friend and his seven year old son came over before that storm hit, and his son was playing with the rainstick. I told him it was gonna rain if he played with it and of course he didn't believe me. The next morning this kid wakes up to pictures on the news of houses under water and people being rescued from their cars, etc. and turns to his dad (my friend) and says "I should have never touched that stick!!!"

here this summer hasn't been that hot actually. and winter's are actually getting colder i mean last two years it snowed in freaking lisbon! but what i do notice is we're getting more and more heat waves round the year.

well, im from texas, and i suppose the weather wasn't really THAT hot this summer, only because it rained EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR 2 MONTHS!! from mid-June to mid-august there was rain every day. we had constant flooding. that doesnt happen in texas very often, especially in the summer! that time is usually for mid-90 temperatures. of course, now that it's august we get those fun mid-90 to triple digit temperatures, plus humidity. it's really not fun having to walk in that for most of day around a college campus. like i'll be sweating after walking for about 2 blocks, its that hot & humid here.

it usually cools down in the fall though. so im expecting nice weather within the next 2 months. that's sporadic texas weather for you. it'll be 100 degress one day, and the next it'll be raining, then it'll be cloudy 80 degree weather, then you'll get a cold front. you never know what to expect...

Just reading in the paper today, and it said that this year we've had at least 5-6 different occurances where FEMA has declared one or more counties a disaster area from all the ice storms, flooding, and/or tornados. I miss normal weather.

We will gladly take any rain, as there has been very little all summer long. Our lakes are well below their average depth and not to mention that it is hotter than "hell" here. High 90's and over 100 degrees most of the summer has made it unbearable, especially the humidity. I need cold weather!!

I was just thinking about this thread yesterday, because our weather took another weird twist! When I left for work yesterday morning, it was 69 deg. and the temp only reached the low 80's over the course of the day. Same thing again this morning. Bear in mind, this time of year (Fall) is generally erratic as far as weather goes (that's where all the "if you've worn a parka and shorts on the same day, you must be in Texas" comes from!) but this is unusual, even for us. The temps around this time of year average in the ranges of summer weather, at least high 90's during the day and 80's at night. This cooling off doesn't usually happen till mid-October.
