2008 Presidential Candidates

Well, this is usually a very touchy subject. I can't help myself tho. I would like to know which of you will be voting this year in the USA. Also, if there are any candidates you think are strong contenders. Which one you would like to see win, and why.

I think this could help open up a lot of peoples eyes on how we feel about each candidate.

Please, if you are going to volunteer info about candidates, make sure it's somewhat fact. I hate heresay. Even if it is
fun! Opinions welcome naturally.

Not because she's a woman, but because I loved when Clinton was Pres and I think that this Clinton can do good for the economy etc, I am so far going with Hillary.
 
I'm a political conservative, which means that I will definitely not be voting for Clinton or Obama. Beyond that, I'm not certain who I would support in the Republican primary. As of right now, the Republican candidates haven't shown me much either. It'll just be a case of the lesser of two evils.
 
As mentioned in another thread, I'm a die-hard supporter of Dr. Paul. I'm aware that his chances are slim (though they're getting better; you can tell by how much the media refuses to talk about him) and my vote may be, among other things, a protest vote, but I'm okay with that.

I'm sure I've no need to remind you but political discussions can get intense, so please keep it polite and civilised 🙂

I found out recently that Obama is allegedly a fan of West Ham Utd, as I am, therefore I would be obliged to support him if I had a US vote...I was offered the chance to sign up for one in New Mexico but that pesky citizenship thing came up 🙂
 
I'm gonna come out and say that I'm not real big in politics, and people always pick a fight with me cause I have the unpopular opinion online [yes I left a board because no one would get off my case about it]

Hmm...Probably Mcaine or Romney (cannot spell mind you). My main problem with majority of the democratic canidates is that they all want to pull the troops out of Iraq. Frankly I'm scared that if we do that, we'll have a greater chance of getting bombed again. Reguardless of whether we should be there or not, we're there now.

Rudy would be fantastic too but the chances are slim of him making it 🙁
 
If I was a US citizen, I'd probably vote Obama or Clinton just to keep the Republicans away. I have yet to find any decent candidates since Jello Biafra ran for the green party's Presidential nomination in 2000.

Lesser of the evils is always a phrase that comes into play come election I believe. However I find myself leaning the Clinton way. I'll have to admit that I think I'm heavily influenced by the fact it would mean a woman president. I tend to empathize with women politicians more.....and I think she may be the lesser of the evils here. And I do relate with a lot of the issues she raises and agree with them. I think because a lot of them are family and personal oriented. Actually as I'm writing this post and I think over her policies I'm finding myself leaning *more* towards Hillary.

See? See what BB does to you? It makes you make political decisions mid-post!

As much as I would like to see a woman president...sorry,but there is no way in hell I can support Hillary. There's a number of reasons why I won't drop the lever for her-not the least of which is that she was little more than an enabler of Bush's adventure in Iraq,voting again and again to not only approve of it,but to continue authorizing money for same.

I'm leaning towards Obama...though Edwards' message of the Two Americas does resonate with me quite a bit.
 
None of the Republican candidates do anything for me in the group, though of them I'd probably pick McCain.

Having said that it is interesting that the fight for the White House is currently more interesting than when the candidates are chosen.
We are going to see History made but not sure which. Will we have the First Black man as President or First White Woman?

Being from the UK, I look at this and think what would be a greater benefit and I would have to say Obama would be the better in that.
However, if I was to go from a purely political POV, I think that Hillary is the better option.
Fact is if she got the position, she's already had 8 years worth of experience to work from. She could do a great deal of good for the country nee world and I think she should stop the bickering and get that husband into check because this is only hurting her and the presidency(if the Democrats get it - doesn't matter which one either).

Without going into too much detail, the best thing for Iraq right now is the withdrawal, in a timely and precise manor, of the British and American troops.
You have nothing to fear of a country that has never attacked American soil and that will take decades to sort itself out.

its really tough to say right now.

i am conservative by nature, but a democrat would get my vote if i truly thought that he/she would make a difference in the way our country is functioning. the rate of foreclosures is going up every single month, illegal immigration is out of control, the construction market (i.e. buildings, houses, etc.) has come to a stand still, people are begging for jobs.........we need someone to take care of all of this.

unfortunately, i feel that the majority of the candidates think they are in a popularity contest. its sad.

Tabula,help me understand...why do you say this? Even if you agree with Obama on all(or most)of the issues,why would you vote for a Republican if Obama gets the nod?

Because I think he is just trying to sell himself. Not try to work for the country. He is trying to make this a popularity vote and about colour, in my opinion. My opinion alone. I would much rather have Edwards than Obama, or like I said McCain. If it's down to Obama and another Conservative, then I would prob end up voting Obama, but I may not be so happy about.
I am also sick of hearing him say that someone with experience needs in, and um, Obama...what experience do you have? You are a newbie!!!!
Until He can show me that he is running for President for a good reason, I will hold my vote for another.
Now don't get mad at me. These are just my opinions, the way I feel. We are all entitled to feel a certain way.

Sorry for the double post but I wanted to add this to my last one but I ran out of time on the whole editing thing.

Previous presidents have been governors, or had a longer term in the Senate or House, before taking office. All of these experiences prepare a person to operate within the system. This is what I meant by obama not having the experience.
Listen, I am ok with Obama getting elected, I just hope he can live up to his wants of 'change.' I feel like he is trying to push this whole change thing too much. This is what scares me. We all know change cannot happen over night. But Obama wants us to believe he will do it.

I am sure he is a nice guy. Look, this will be my last post on it because I want this to be a friendly debate or no debate at all even. Just where people can share on their feelings openly about the race.
I don't think about colour when I think about me or anyone else. But I believe Obama does. What turned me off of him was when he 'expected' to get so many of the African American votes in SC. Say what? Who cares. That just shows me that he thinks colour should stick together. It should have been about how many people will vote. I can't help it. Maybe that's a normal thing but as I see it. United we Stand and, well you know the rest.
There is still plenty of time. I hope he can change my mind about what he says that this isn't about race. Cause he seems like he could be a good guy!
Only time will tell.
