This morning the 2009 Emmy Award Nominations were announced. I DVR'd them cause it was far too early for me. Chandra Wilson looked gorgeous and she was nominated, twice! Overall I guess I'm good with the nominations. Happy to see some Lost, Dexter, Big Love & Weeds love. Happy that Christina Applegate is nominated after the stupidity that was ABC cancelling Samantha Who. Always giddy to see Sally Field nominated. I'd be more happy for Sandra Oh if she didn't reek of stupid Dr. Owen Hunt 🙁 And not so happy Katherine Heigl wasn't nominated. Despite how cheesy the cancer & Ghost Denny storyline got her performance was worthy & I can't help but think the Academy is still just bitter by the spin that was placed on her infamous comment last year, but whatevs. Oh and yay for Drew Barrymore, Grey Gardens is still on my must watch.

What does everyone else think? Oh and Neil Patrick Harris is hosting this year AND nominated so yay!

Oh, come ON! Nothing for Battlestar Galactica, AGAIN?! I mean, this is the last year it could have possibly been nominated and still, it gets nothing from the Emmy voters in spite of the fact that it's so brilliant and well-respected that the cast and crew were asked to meet with the frakking UN! And in what universe is Mary McDonnell less deserving of an Emmy than the Grey's Anatomy cast?

Just goes to show that the Emmy voters are so shallow that they won't give a show any recognition just because they don't like its name or genre. It's Buffy all over again.

Still, in spite of my BSG-related rage, I'm glad to see that How I Met Your Mother, Flight of the Conchords (although I am sad to see that Jemaine got nominated and not Bret), Pushing Daisies (even though it really should have gotten a "best comedy" nomination), and apparently, Dr. Horrible all got some recognition.

L. Scott Caldwell was only in like 5 minutes of Lost this season!
I'm with Crazy Flakes on the BSG snub. Season 4 wasn't my favourite but the proformances were immaculate, as they always have been. It's a disgrace.

Also, Air, right their with you hun on the lack of Heigl love. She deserved a nod.

I hope Tina Fey wins for her Palin impersonations.
 
I can't believe nobody has commented on the fact that HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is freaking nominated this year.

Finally!

Jim Parsons should win for The Big Bang Theory, NPH for HIMYM. *nod*
 
Hopefully, Dr. Horrible wins in its category, since it doesn't have super-strong competition (though I fear that the Emmy will go to Kenneth the Web Page or the Bruce Springsteen Super Bowl one). It would be nice for Joss Whedon to finally win an Emmy.
 
Just a few comments from me:

1) Yep, most of the list isn't that surprising. The Emmy voters like what they like.
2) Only real surprise: Family Guy nominated for best comedy series? There is a seperate category for best animated series and even The Simpsons has never gotten that nomination. And what I saw of Family Guy this year was horrible! They actually spent a full three minutes of one episode showing a clip of Conway Twitty.....seriously professional comedy writers spend three minutes of a 22 minute episode showing a clip of a musician? Lazy writing. They deserve no recognition unless it's shittiest writing in a comedy series. 30 Rock deserves the win, but as long as it isn't Family Guy, I'll be happy.
3) Why is Jenna Fischer getting snubbed? Amy Poehler isn't unfunny, but SNL has been terrible in general for years and that certainly hasn't changed this year. Jenna should have had her spot.
4) Really glad Michael Emerson was nominated. He deserves to win. I wish Terry O'Quinn woud have been nominated too, but I guess they can't have all the best supporting actor nominations from LOST and O'Quinn has already won in the past. Still, he was excellent this season especially given how "Locke" ended up toward the end of season five.
5) Either The Daily Show or The Colbert Report deserves to win the best comedy, variety category but will probably lose to Letterman since he's getting all kind of attention for his Sarah Palin joke right now.
