Following on the idea of a female Ghostbusters team in a shared universe with their male counterparts, they are now making a female 21 Jump Street movie set in the same universe.

But wait.. there's more.. The next male version movie of 21 Jump Street is going to be a crossover movie. It's going to crossover with Men In Black. So... I think right now I can honestly say screw you Marvel! You are the cause of all of this. And yeah the MiB/Jump Street is supposed to be a satirical look at the modern blockbuster but come on!

Following the warm reception the world had last year when Sony Pictures announced plans for a female-led reboot of Ghostbusters, the same studio is now planning a similar female-led spinoff of their 21 Jump Street action comedy franchise. The comedy, which will presumably be about a pair of young-ish female cops teaming up to investigate crime at a high school, will be adapted by Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs, writers for Comedy Central's Broad City. At the same time, we also learned this week that Sony Pictures is indeed planning on having the next 21 Jump Street movie with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum be about their characters crossing over with the Men in Black franchise, as their cop characters will start tracking down alien criminals from farther away than China or Mexico. This would be a bigger headline if this plan hadn't already been leaked last year during the e-mail hacking scandals leading up to the release of The Interview. The comedic slant behind crossing 21 Jump Street with Men in Black is reportedly intended to be a spoof of the trend in Hollywood these days towards creating "cinematic universes" that might not otherwise make sense being linked together.

I did hear something about a female version. I thought the whole Men In Black thing was just talk that got leaked during the Sony thing months ago. I'm not sure if it's confirmed. I like the 2 movies, but I don't need spin-offs and a shared universe.

I don't blame Marvel, I blame Sony- their the one trying to half-assed copy Marvel with an 'intergrated universe' of movies that go together. This just makes no sense whatsoever.

21 Jump Street was an interesting movie (haven't seen the sequel yet) but MiB was pretty tired as a trilogy (1 was good, 3 was okay, 2 should be burned) and I see no reason why they should be in the same 'verse' with each other. The only link they have is comedic tone.

Sony seems intent on destroying any franchise it can get its greedy little mits on- see Amazing Spiderman 2- as they try and milk it for as much cash as they can without any consumate effort.
