25th Anniversary

Ha, I didn’t even realize. The anniversary snuck up on me, and yet, last night I was deciding what to watch and just randomly thought…”hmm. How about Buffy S1”?

I only started watching this show last year, (almost to the day) and I have to say, after watching all of Buffy, Angel, Firefly and others, it’s kinda ruined most other shows for me. The writing and the characters are so amazingly good, nothing else compares.

25 years later, it has stood the test of time!

I realized it when I looked at the date for today; thanks to writing fanfic (and thus needing to look at dates a lot) I knew that March 10th was the premiere of the pilot. Then when I did the math, I realized it was 25 years! So awesome 😀

It is crazy the way Buffy is still impacting the world 25 years later. There aren't many shows that are so iconic 2 1/2 decades later. And the most unique part is that Buffy was NOT on a "popular" channel when it aired--the "Big Four": CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC. Shows on these channels did well because for most people, they could not afford cable TV packages in the 90s, but the Big Four were over-the-airwaves channels you could get from your antenna. The WB was not in large markets in 1997, like it became by the end of its run. So the fact that it had become such a sensation is a super big deal. And the fact that it is STILL one of the most streamed shows is a HUGE feat!

I'm on a rewatch of Angel right now. If I'd known I'd have started with Buffy instead LOL. (I did Buffy first last time two years ago, so I wanted to mix things up a bit this time LOL.)

Happy 25th to Buffy. Still one of the all time greatest series and pieces of vampire fiction. Buffy and Angel are among my top 5 favourite series ever made and will undoubtedly continue to influence new generations of fans for another 25 years.

A perfect example of a show’s longevity and popularity being due to great work quality from all involved as opposed to chasing trends or being pretentious.

I don’t think anyone could have possibly realized what the show would become and what kind of impact it would have when they aired Welcome to the Hellmouth. I wonder what it must have been like to see the show and fan base unfold like they did. Iconic television episodes like The Body, Restless, and Once More with Feeling all would never have existed if that first season didn’t catch on like it did.

Happy 25th to Destructo-Girl, and here’s to another 25 more 🥂.

Buffy gives me comfort. There is always an episode to suite my mood and "guide" me. 25 years and countless re-watches later and I can still see new things each time.

I love that the show inspires endless debates and intelligent discussions about a myriad of different topics.
And that it also provides comic relief and an "airiness" that makes it fun to watch and re-watch without feeling too serious. 😀

Highlight:
I remember seeing the VHS boxset of Season 1 for sale at the video store by my house. I would have been 11 or 12 at the time and collected all my money and bought the boxset. Other than a CD or two this was my first "big purchase". I went home and binge watched the whole season.

Wow, happy anniversary to Buffy! I think this has to class it as one of the all-time iconic shows. I bet it will still be airing streaming (probably won't even have "airing" by then) in another 25 years.

Since I've only been watching BtVS for about 2 years, my fandom highlight has to be this group!❤️

And we are definitely glad you are here my friend!
A Happy 25th anniversary to a show I've never completely let go of to the point I will re-watch the series again and again. Whether it is 1 year or more years in between.
I know I will always come back to it.

Highlights
1. The character of Buffy herself.
I had watch the film.and enjoyed it enough and found KS pretty appealing and quite cute. And also a bonus of Luke Perry (RIP) in it as well.
However from the first episode, it was all about SMG. She made the character her own and blew KS out of the water.
2. Angel. 🥰😇 And for giving into the spin-off for his own show.
3. The Scoobies with Giles, Willow, Xander and also Cordy and Oz as my favourite interaction.
4. Great character arcs, villains, couples and storylines.
5. Amazing series/season openings and fantastic season finales.

Lowlights
1. The longevity of Spike.
2.The creation of Spuffy.
3. The basement monster in Bad Eggs. I will NEVER be able to watch that episode fully because of that THING. 😱🙈😖
