I want to know everyone's take on the recent boom in 3D technology. Are you a fan of it?. Do you enjoy 3D movies?. Do you own/Would you buy a 3D TV or 3DS?
 
3D is horrible. Seriously, you go see a 3D movie, pay like $5 more so you can get a headache and not really see everything that went on. The only way it's worth it is if it's in a theater built for 3D AKA IMAX. Other than that, it's just awful.
 
I wear glasses, and find that stacking a 2nd pair on top of them very uncomfortable, usually resulting in a headache by halfway through the movie. As for the special effect itself, I find it contributes little or nothing to my enjoyment. At best, I find it only tolerable if the movie is something that I really want to see. (On that note, "Avatar" was, to me, just as good on our wide screen TV at home in plain old 2D as it was in the theater in 3D, plus the advantage of no glasses.

The idea of 3D television is, in my opinion, just about the same thing as "Blue Ray" DVD's: just an excuse to make me have to buy new equipment in order to enjoy the show or movie. I don't like it, I don't want it, and I most certainly don't want it.

No, no, no, no, no. As some of you know, I'm a film student. Seeing things like this make me no longer want to be a film student.

Audiences no longer go see a movie because of the plot/storyline, they go see it because, "OOOOH MY GOD! 3D! THINGS POP OUT OF THE SCREEN!"

This makes me incredibly angry as I'm an indie film follower.

Basically...what everyone else said! I'm of the opinion that 3D should be for gimicky things like that show at Disneyland...Honey I Shrunk The Audience, I think? Where it's 3D but they use it to make it more of a show and interact with the audience, if you get me. I like 3D like that, but when people are taking regular old movies that have no real need of 3D just to jack up the ticket prices and basically jump on the bandwagon, I think it's ridiculous. Sadly though, with everyone jumping on the aforementioned bandwagon, I think we'll be seeing alot more of it because films will have to go 3D to be able to compete, even if they don't really need it 🙁

As long as they keep selling 2D tickets aswell though, I suppose I can live with it! Also, like it's also been said, 3D glasses are really uncomfortable when you already have a pair of specs on underneath. And it gives my friend migraines. If they ever make a complete change to 3D I would probably end up not going to the cinema, which would suck majorly.
 
I'm really not a fan. The only 3D movie I've seen was Toy Story 3 and it was awesome!
But really not because of the 3D effects! The movie itself was really cool and I think that's what really counts.
The 3D effects were pretty cool, but a movie like that doesn't need that. It only gave me a headache, so it basically just worsened a really cool movie.

I think that the '3D business' kind of destroys the movies. They only concentrate on the effects and very little on the actual movie.
 
I'm not a fan of it either. It just seems to me like an excuse to charge an even more ridiculous price to go and sit in a dark room and watch a screen for a couple of hours with screaming children and idiots on their phones.

I don't like the cinema much 😛
 
I love the idea of 3D and 4D.. I hate the way it's currently being used... without sounding all girly but something like this in 3D would be wicked cool!

I hate the 3D movie craze. It's a cheap gimmick used by Hollywood to try and hide the fact that they have no new ideas and the majority of movies are terrible. And it ain't working.
 
I hate 3D. HATE it. I get horrible headaches and my eyes hurt and seriously, Hollywood- if the reaction to a movie is physical discomfort, you're doing it wrong.

Avatar's effects were kinda cool and all, but it got old after a while and omg, they should've used all that money to hire better writers or script doctors or something. What an awful movie.
