Am I the only on who finds it a little odd there wasn't any reference to a third slaye, since Buffy died and all.

we have a thread on this do we not? sorry it might be in the cemetery.. if not can one of you awesome people get a link... 😀 x

Technically Faith was still a slayer, so there really wouldn't be another called i dont think. Cause really Buffy died, Kendra was called then kendra died Faith was called so Wether buffy died agian or not... Faith was still a slayer so she'd have to die before another could be called i assume

I think this is one of the most disputed topics around Buffy forums.

My answer is yes, Buffy loved Spike... What? Wrong topic? F**k you buddy. There's never a wrong topic, perhaps a wrong wrong yet to be righted.

Never made sense to me. Rules were if a slayer dies. Slayer died. Fact there was another one didn't stop Faith being called.

well it didnt say there wasnt another slayer called.. but it never said there was.. but i guess it doesnt matter after season 7 as they gave all potential slayers the power buffy and faith had.. so now there is no longer one slayer ... or two.. but many

so i wouldnt know why they didnt mention the third one...

EDIT: i totally skipped this post...

yeah this sounds about right 🙂

The first post in the first thread...Buffy was just trying to show the gravity of the situation or Faith just was in the back of her head at the moment.

And also, here we go...

When Buffy died in Prophecy Girl, Kendra was called, right? Then Buffy was revived. She retained all of her Slayerness, though. When Kendra died, Faith was called. Think of it like Buffy didn't get revived. The Slayer line continued, and Buffy had merely been a Slayer, but she was not the present Slayer (even though she was). Then when Buffy died in The Gift, Faith was still the active Slayer. Buffy did not have the power to pass the power on to the next Slayer. Faith did, not Buffy.

Very confusing but it's simple if you take the time to understand it. I questioned this once, too, but I kinda answered myself...so...

Yep, it's simple really. Until the rules were changed in Chosen every slayer had her place in the slayer line and her death would activate the next slayer. Buffy's death activated Kendra who in turn activated Faith.

There is some debate as to who the active slayer was AFTER Buffy was brought back the second time in Bargaining (have a look at the other threads for that part of the problem) but at the time of her death in The Gift she had already played her part in the slayer line and could not activate another.

I thought that when Buffy was revived mystically in season six, that it created TWO slayer lines, so that both Buffy *and* Faith were active slayers. I did SO MUCH reading on Buffy last month that I can't even begin to remember where I read this, but I do know it came up a couple of times.

Anyway, that would explain why Buffy in constantly telling the Potentials that once she dies one of them would be called.

But to me that explains perfectly why no new slayer was called after the events of "The Gift" but that one WOULD be called if Buffy died after "Bargaining".

I'm not sure whether it was a case of two slayer lines or simply that whatever Willow did had the added effect of passing the line back to Buffy. The fact that the First had no issue with killing Faith but needed to keep Buffy alive would suggest that it believed Faith could no longer activate a new slayer. Either way it will never be proven due to the events of Chosen.

Close, but the rule is actually when 'The Slayer' died.
Buffy technically lost that when Kendra was called.
It is disputed heavily IF her resurrection caused her to be THE Slayer from Bargaining, and what that means with Faith, also if Buffy died at the end of season 6 BUT as far as her death in 'The Gift' goes, no one else was called.

What he said.

Which was pretty much what I said.

So what we said!

Erm... yeah! 😀

but that doesn't explain what happened to Faith. if Buffy was, by whatever reason, sloted back into the Slayer line and became THE Slayer again, what would happen if Faith died? She's a Slayer too. has she become the 'extra one'? the one who's death activates no one?
we'll never get a straight answer to this question, but i like the theory of two Slayer lines, or at the very least, they are BOTH the active Slayer, and the first one to die passes on the Slayer line...the other one sort of hangs around until she dies.

Again, it's only speculation and this is purely based on the assumption that the First knew more than we did but the fact that it was willing to have Faith killed whilst it kept Buffy alive suggests to me that it was aware that she no longer was the active slayer and that Buffy was now the true Chosen One again.

All the evidence does pont to the fac that Buffy was made The Slayer again in season 7.

When willow does her spell to bring Buffy back to life, and we see her recreated, so it makes sense that her slayerness was recreated by takeing the line out of Faith and running it through Buffy again.

Bonus points for the use of the word "slayerness"! 😉

Yes! You set it up so now I have an answer!

No, Faith is the Slayer. She has the position Buffy had before the Master killed her. Buffy is the extra one.

You sure about that? You might want to read some of the other comments in this thread (and the numerous others on the subject) and have a rethink. 😉

Well, see here is one of those things we discussed before your Christmas break from BB.

Someone has joined with obviously little understanding of what happened, has started a thread and a few(including myself) have blown them off...not literally...and told them to search.

Would it not be in better standing for some of us...ahem N4H...to begin again with the 'Buffy vs Faith' who was the active Slayer and when?
