I thought Obama's acceptance speech was very uplifting.

On the flip side, I thought McCain's concession speech was very gentlemanly & polite.

Now, as every 4 years, we have a CHANCE to make some CHANGES. Whether those changes will be GOOD or BAD has yet to be seen, & won't truly resonate until this time is a chapter in history.

I didn't vote for either of them (I'm infamous for my write ins!) but I'm glad Obama won. I just hope he can live up to his promises.

Really???? O_O Here in CA (well, at least where I am, anyway) everyone's been partying and listening to the radio nonstop with his speeches and they've all been crying happily and cheering and just plain happy and giddy. I only know a couple of pro-McCain people, and they didn't part with us, though, but we were just too happy to let that spoil our mood. 🙂

I'm sorry, but this has got to be the most horrible thing I have read in a LONG time. What I was pointing out was that people were getting their facts all jumbled, and it was bothering me. It wasn't a direct hit on his race either way. And as someone who is of mixed decent (I am Choctaw, Comanche and White), I can tell you from personal experience that the color of your skin has NOTHING to do with who you are. Your heritage and culture has to do with who you are. Your family and morals have to do with who you are. Your skin can be altered by a tanning bed. It's insubstantial. Although yes, it is a historical moment and one that will be remembered for ages, I do agree.

Sidenote: I was at a conference for my scholarship about 4 years ago (it's for minority students), and was sitting with a friend of mine who also recieved the same scholarship. He's a quarter Cherokee, and I'm a quarter Choctaw and an eight Comance (the rest is heinz 57 as my mom calls it). We were sitting at a table with about 6 black students there, and one of them actually asked us "So what ARE you?" I'm a person. And you?

I THINK what Pernille meant wasn't an attack or racial insult but simply that, as with most people, Obama is a black man as when you look at him PURELY in relation to his skin colour, you can't say he is white!!

Having said that, I have never liked the term 'race' to depict another persons familial heritage simply because there is only one 'race' (of humans) on this planet, the Human Race...that is unless all those conspiracy theorists are correct and the Reptoids are amongst us.

I agree that campaign promises and hopes of "change" can often times be left unfulfilled after someone wins an election, but there's always the faint hope that SOME of the promises will go through (and if they do I think that'll be a good thing for the USA, and Canada as we are so closely tied

Well, I believe that NAFTA as is isn't real popular with Obama.
There are some things I do like about Obama.
If he can follow through with his more isolationist approach to trade I'd call that a small win for America.
So I'd like him to at least keep that promise.
That's a lot of jobs that could be generated for the US instead of outsourced.
I buy a lot of books that say "Printed in Canada" as one small example.

Personally I am so excited about this change. I hope Obama keeps his campaign promises and as far as his speech is concerned I loved it. It made me cry, true story. Now we just have to wait. I will say, though, that I am worried for Obama. I am sure there are plenty of rednecks out there that are none too happy right now.......

I was really proud the way our football coach Tony Dungy spoke when asked his thought. Dungy, being the first African-American coach to win the Superbowl said

"We did not elect an African-American President; we elected a President who happens to be African-American."

Just wish more 'news reporters' would be as eloquent as an old football coach.

Political language is truly sickening. Does it seems to want to break it down by continental origin for some reason? Or by country?

Ok so I've been away for awhile now...and my first REAL post of course has to do with politics...

One thing That Obama said that I can gaurentee will happen is Change...

whether it be for the good or bad...

I truly thing that our government wants positive change and will do its best to give it to us...I truly think that Obama intends on helping struggling americans everywhere. Its not just the middle and lower class that is suffering, big business is suffering...

Truck companies...

Prime example Ford Motors and GMC are requiring a bailout just like the housing market in order to stay in business...its the truth!

if the government doesnt grant them a bailout they will go under. and there goes chances for fuel effeciant and alternative methods of transportation to fuel.

What does this mean for american tax payers??? Honestly knowing this is why I casted my vote for Obama...I think that he is going to do what he can do to help distribute the wealth to keep this economy afloat...I think he will ask for help when needed. I think he will practice bypartisionship to help americans in their time of need.

While I feel that those whom have worked hard to become wealthy deserve to keep their welath, at this time it simply HAS to be spread around. I dont agree with the bailouts...I hate them even but they ARE neccessary.

McCain said he wanted to stop the spending for programs seeking an alternative to fuel and focus on offshore drilling, Obama said he wanted to fund more programs...well in my opinion there has to be a comprimise, I think both are needed. because quite frankly, I blame the rise in gasoline prices for some of the layoffs widespread threw the US. We're in a crummy spot. Something HAS to be done. I am looking foward to change. Either candidate would have been better than our current president. Both candidates would have brought more to the table than the candidates four years prior. This was one election where I didnt ask myself who was the lesser of two evils in my mind they both would have done what they thought best for americans and EITHER would have fought for positive change...I cast my vote for whom I thought would be the most effective.

I am not a repulician or a democrat only an American! History was made Nov.4th and while its important to acknowledge that, the true celebration in my heart is the hope that we as a nation truly will have change in todays economy...I only hope that our elected officials work together to give us what we need. And though I am sure that many repulicans are distressed by the democratic control at least the bickering between party lines will end for a time...I too fear extreme left but I highly doubt any of the politics that are deemed truly extreme are the least of the worries on capital hill.

I hope that I am right. In the meantime...Hope is all that I have...and its all any of us should have...

Just wanted to point out that Obama got 65 million votes, and McCain gout 57 million votes. So I have to disagree with you that Obama got most of the votes. There are still 57 million Americans who did not want him as their president for many, many reasons.

I was not happy about this election. My vote went to McCain. I feel that Obama was much to 'left' for my tastes, I don't care for socialism and spreading the wealth, and I could really care less what color he is. I think a majority of his plans will end up costing American's money, and I am waiting as well to rub it in if nothing pans out according to what he claimed. I am severely upset that we have a Democrat President and Democrat Congress. I'm afraid that nothing will be worked out bi-partisan.
