So 2005 is almost over, and 2006 is just around the corner. I'm opening up this thread to ask: What did 2005 teach you? Or how did 2005 compare to some of your better years?

I'm only asking because we had to do an essay in class a couple weeks ago explaining what we had taken away from 2005. I went into great depth about how it really prepared me for the coming years. I lost someone close to me, a couple friendships ended, and I really think I became a semi-adult this year. Mostly it was a learning experience and I'm going to have to put it all to good use in '06. But all-in-all, it was an okay year. Not my favorite, but beneficial I'd say.

2005 definitely taught me to love more and that I am a stronger person than I gave myself credit for. 2005 was a very hard year for this household. Hubby had 3 surgeries this year, the 2nd one almost killed him (complications resulting in emergency surgery), getting hit head on by a drunk driver, both situations have taught me to appreciate life more and accept people (friends and family) for who they are (faults and all) and not what they can do for me. I have also taken from this year the knowledge that I am a stronger person (being financially responsible for our family, since hubby was out of work for 10 months) and becoming closer in my faith knowing that there is a reason for everything that happens and by putting my faith in God somehow it all works out. Might sound dorky but thats ok with me. What will 2006 hold? Dont know, but I will not take for granted my job or those that I love. I can only hope and pray that the experiences of 2005 will continue to make me a better person.

It does not sound dorky at all.
Right now I can't remember much that happened this year at all, even though 2005 has probably been the most eventful year of my life so far.. It just doesn't seem like it right now. For 2006 I just pretty much hope for a few things to sort themselves out, so I don't have to worry about them anymore.. and such..

2005 was a crazy year, but what I have gained from it was worth every second of pain. 2005 has taught me that I can be strong and that fighting to change ones circumstances is certainly worth it. I'm still working on a lot of things that revealed a need for change this year, but I have a lot of support. The people I have found standing with me in these times are the greatest suprise of all. It is interesting to see who really will stand by you through anything. The highlight of my year didn't come until the end, meeting and falling in love with a man who is the most amazing person in the entire world. Knowing that he is there, makes the next, seemingly more challenging year managable. So this year has taught me to trust myself and to believe that everything will work out, not in my way or my time, but it will work out.

2005 was a great year for me...
I lost a couple of friends but I gained a lot of experience. It was a pretty hard year because of my boyfriend being away for a year. But that just made me stronger...
I also found out what i want to achieve in my life. I think I got a lot wiser and actually grew up a lot.
I found out who my true friends are.
oh yeah,...ehm... and this year I got obsessed with Angel...lol

Yeah I know what ya mean I lost a couple of friends too. But it made me grow!
2005 wasn't the best year in the world for me. I lost some friends, and my social life suffered because of it, I had a very depressing summer but I feel like I've been at my worst and now I can move on up.

My career over the last 3 months has got better though! Over the last couple of weeks my social life has finally got better but it's still not great! I'm hoping that this coming year gets better i'm sure it will, even years are always good for me.

2005 was a bad bad year. Started off okay and uneventful except my birthday in February which rocked. Just the second half was very very bad and wish it hadn't happened. Lots of badness. As far as what I've learnt from it; I am a very "strong" (emotionally) person that can deal with adult situations.

I liked 2005. I finished college and started my career. I guess this means that I learned I can complete tasks that I finish, like college. I also learned to never give first graders Halloween parties, at they tend to be completely chaotic. I will not have a party next year.........

Aw, at least it was a sweet idea :)
 Hmmmm.....Let me see. What has 2005 taught me? Love? Respect? Sadness? Happiness? Hate? Anger? Trust? I think this year has taught me more things that I could possibly name or possibly even understand. I've experienced so many memories throughout this year and I do feel that they have made me a stronger person. The events that have occurred have changed me as a person. I am only sixteen, yes, but I feel that I had to grow up fast just to make it through this year. The pain of loss was the greatest thing that I felt this years. The Deaths of many people that I love and care for and the loss of my sister being taken away from my home and placed in a group home. My friends mother, Mrs. Martha, felt like a second mother to me. She encouraged me when I felt down, and took care of me when I was sick. She was a great inspiration in my life. Don't want to stay on this too long cause, I'll go into tearing, and you know what that'll lead to...but It has made me stronger though. I have felt true love as well this year.........and it I don't know how I feel. It's amazing and I can't explain it. I have never felt this way before. I just want to do what Willow did at the ende of the spell for the slayers. Fall over and say nifty out of amazment! I've shared plenty of moments with my friends as well and some not so happy ones. I found out that everyone is not your friend so you have to be careful and watch your back. Jelousy allows peeked around the corner, but I with stood it. The year 2005 has taught me so many amazing things. And yes, I am Bisexual!!! I am!! I had to get that off my chest! Another thing I've learned to do. Say what I feel instead of surpressing my feeling. I also found a family.....everyone here at the Buffy Boards. All the fussing and laughter we have here is like with brothers and sisters!!! So you are my new family guys. When New Years come I'll be here bringing it in with my Family! That's what 2005 has taught me. Thanks for supporting me and putting up with me! P.S. I hope no one takes being bisexual against me!!:smile0:

2005 made me realise that having a close group of friends can really make a huge difference in your school life. I had so much fun last year going out at the weekends to different parties and clubs - I just laughed a lot.

This year my group had kind of split up (due to several individual reasons) and I'm a little depressed now because I'm going out with randoms every week and just not having that much fun, but I'm learning the importance of independency. I think this year I need to worry less about such stupid things...

2005 was a year where I learned a lot of things. When I was in High School I didn't really try my hardest at school but then I realized that I can't be fooling around on my last year. I learned that I had to be more responsible so I tried my hardest to graduate and thankfully I did with all As and Bs. Whew.
I also lost a couple friends that were really close to me. That taught me that not everyone is going to be around forever no matter how much we want them to. I graduated High School and kinda grew up more. I got a good job and staretd college and I'm doing really well. 2005 was also the year I joined Buffy Boards and met you guys. GO YOU GUYS!!! :woot:

2005 was a pretty good year up till October...It was around that time that I started choosing who were my real friends and who to trust and who not to trust. Things kept getting worse, but I got used to what happened...But then I got hit in the head with a little thing called friendship, and lost a good relationship with one of my good friends because of something I didn't mean to do. But I think I'm getting better now, because i'm spending more time with my true friends...I'm hoping 2006 will be a better year, and a way for me to start off better then I did last year. 🙂

What has 2005 taught me?
Well...not to take anything at all for granted.
This year hasn't treated me well. I've lost someone whom I didn't really get that good of a chance to know well, and I'm really regretting it.
Family problems erupted all throughout the year.
I've had my fair share of mess ups...mistakes in which I would give anything and everything to take back and fix, but what's done is done.
I've come to find that while some friends may do things that upset you, you've gotta realize that hey, they're your friends, appreciate them and don't let a few little mishaps mess things up. You never know when they've had enough.
ALWAYS ask for help if you need it. Even if you think you can fix things on your own, that's not always the case.

And finally ... hold onto the things closest to your heart and don't EVER let go. You could take something for granted for a split second, but that's all it takes for you to lose it forever.

Happy Holidays everyone. Let's hope 2006 is a wonderful year.

yea...im defintely hoping 2006 is better than 2005. Happy New Year, Caitlin.
2005 taught me that life can suck so bad yet be so amazing at the same time.
It also seems to be teh year that brings back soem random members who noone probably even remembers cause weve been gone so long. Hey Caitlin, I think you put 2005 into like one sentence pretty well.
