Simple math test.. (its old, you may have seen it before) but

There are 7 girls in a bus.
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats.
For every big cat there are 7 little cats.
Each girl has 7 backpacks.

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

U
Uncle Rory
Does that include the bus driver? And the LEGS on the bus seats?
How many legs? Or pairs of legs?

Edit:

Is it 84?

_____________

There was no mention of bus driver and never really thought about legs on the seat.. its NOT a trick question

10990?

Is it a joke? : erm :

Edit:
scobro agrees: no, but you would be surprised who cant do it.. that is all.. thought it was a fun little test.

Oh okay 🙂 Yes it was fun, I just thought I was there working it out when it was going to turn out to be a joke haha.

I didn't even know where to start.. I started with the cats, then realised each girl had 7 backpacks, and for every big cat there was 7 small..I gave up!

I failed maths at school though, I just can't do math.

It´s not a trick question? And here I thought it was. They´re usually much more common sense and adults are always doing it complicated. But for the fun of it I´ll say 1582.

that's what I got
Why do it complicated? If each girl has 7 backpacks that is 49 backpacks. 49 x 7 big cats is 343 big cats and each big cat has 7 smaller cats is 343 x 7 which is 2401 small cats.

7 girls = 49 legs
343 big cats = 1372 legs
2401 smaller cats = 9604 legs
All added together is 10990 legs, I think.

I get too excited about maths

Any-one seen a teacher here?
my first though was the smart ass answer which was a bus doesnt have legs so zero, when i started to add though i keep getting different numbers, my brother thru that question at me ages ago, pretty tough for a simple maths question

42!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(oh someone was gonna say it)
Bluebird agrees: the meaning of life? (sw)
Gah BB... this makes me nuts when people say it. 42 is not the meaning of life, 42 is the answer to The Last Question.

Sorry, had to beat the nerds I played RPGs with for some years in a musty basement smelling of old socks and stale potato chips (yes, totally think The Trio... only we were six XD ) repeatedly over the head for this one. 😛

Aaagh, help! I've been beaten by a nerd. ;)

Yeah. Totally agree. It's the ultimate answer. Not the meaning of life ^^
7 girls = 49 legs
For some reason I skipped one thing in my calculation. But this? Does every girl have 7 legs?!!! 7 girls should have 7 x 2 = 14 legs or what am I missing?

If you add those numbers you get 11025. 😉 But since I want the girls to have 14 legs it comes down to 10990. But have we got it confirmed that it´s right? Or told that it´s wrong?

yeah, only 14 legs..
Like TK I also got 1582 first .. now though I recalculated and got 10990 .... is that correct?
Here's how I calculated:
(feel free to point out flaws )

There are 7 girls in a bus.
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats.
For every big cat there are 7 little cats.
Each girl has 7 backpacks.

7 girls with 7 backpacks each, makes a total of 49 backpacks, to start with. In every backback there a 7 big cats, so that makes a 7x49 amount of big cats, which is a total of 343 big cats.
For every big cat there are 7 little cats, so there you have 343x7 more cats, which is 2401.
So let's add legs. Cats have 4 of them so first the big ones you get 343x4=1372
Then the small cats you have 2401x4=9604
And let's not forget the girls with 2 legs each, so 7x2=14
Now adding up that's 10990.

EDIT: Okay, and if we have to add the busdriver, it's 10992, would that be correct?

you are smarter than I thought you were. You gonna pass that weird math course of yours next block ^^
Depending on whether cats have got 4 or 2 legs, I'd say assuming they stand on all 4 legs, there should be in total obviously 10990 8) legs dangling around in the bus. Miau.

Or is 9618 correct? Now I'm seriously confused and wonder whether I should be allowed to study.

Haha sorry I do mean 14 legs! Too many 7's on my piece of paper!

There's a reason I was in retard math...

I would've never figured this out in grade 5 and I'd definitely never figure it out now...
