6 Days Or Billions Of Years.....?

Sorry, but gonna have to pick you apart - especially on the geology stuff. No offence 😀

When people say that we evolved from apes, that is totally wrong scientifically.

We did not evolve from apes. We just have a common ancestor with the apes, and somewhere down the line we evolved from them (the common link/ancestor, not ape).

Sorry, but we did evolve from apes, just not the apes that are around today. The common ancestor from which both humans and modern apes evolved was still an ape...just a different one. But the point you were trying to make is good.

Do I believe in the"BIG-BANG"? No. There just isn't enough evidence supporting it.

Plenty of evidence for the Big Bang, especially the microwave background radiation. Ok, some of the physics is a wee bit dodgy (inflation theory) and only seems to be there for mathematical convienience, but there is no other explaination. I think time will eventually supply the missing answers

Geologic evolution is two. Tectonic plates, theories of pangea, deposition of sediments, calculating the age of fossils via carbon dating all support this.

Carbon dating only works when you have carbon and for ages <20,000 years due the short half life of carbon. You cannot actually date a fossil. However, you can date volcanic rocks above and below fossils. You can also date metamorphics, but they are unlikely to be near to a fossil! Common dating methds for the geologic timescale are K-Ar, U-Pb, St-Nb and other decay similar decay series. These are generically known as radiometric dating.

Correlation is three. This is different layers of rock that show different ages of specimens of life perserved in sediment. Correlation by the comparison of rock layers can produce fair dating of fossils.

Only relative dates though. This bit is older than this bit, etc, etc. No absolute ages can be obtained. You need radiometic dating for this 🙂

For example, if you take a look at the embryos of FISH, CHICKEN, PIG, and HUMAN, you will notice that there are similiarities between them and how they start out which suggest they do have a common ancestor.

I seem to remember that this has nothing to do with evolution...I'll have to check where I read this though. I think it was "Almost Like A Whale" by Steve Jones...

Some good points in there...just a wee bit of mis-information 😀

I believe in the whole theory of evolution. I'm not religious, don't believe in God.

Heh, thanks, I guess I must have been a weet rusty on my information. Can you tell me what the microwave background radiation is? It sounds interesting.

Thank You. Physics hasn't always been my main focus of study, I'm more into Biology and the study of life. Astronomy is something I'm into as well, but I don't expertise in that either, so thanks for the link I'll be sure to check it out and post my thoughts afterwards!

...

Woah! So much info! The pictures there really do help the explanations. I read it and I didn't get what `surface of last scattering' was. Mind telling me in pm?

Anyways, I still do believe that God created the earth in 6 days. I'm a believer, but I definetly do not rule out or look down upon the "big-bang-theory".

Nice attempt Groo some good points, but i still think religion was created through a lack of understanding of science. MAde some good points tho.

Man this is no fun. Almost everyone here is rationable and logical. We need some creationists to argue with. Who wants to start a religious debate? Don't make me be the antagonizer.
