7.01 - "Lessons"

Ok, the only problem I have with this one scenario of Dawn's new school is that it seems to be centrally focused on Dawn. Of all the characters introduced on the show, I'd have to say I like Dawn the least. She's annoying, she whines too much, and in my opinion doesn't really contribute anything to the group as a whole. (Other than causing people's things to disappear with her klepto tendencies) With this new direction the show is taking, since it takes place at Dawn's school it stands to reason we'd see a lot more of her, which is what I mainly have a problem with.

Best get used to her, because she is here to stay. Plus, she hardly whines at all, I get pretty mad when people say that, because it simply isn't true. Fact is, Buffy whines a whole lot more then Dawn ever does. When has Dawn ever really whined about something? The only ep I remember really being nasty was Older and Far Away, and even then all she wanted was from Buffy was some attention, which she wasn't getting since Buffy was too busy boinking Spike. For the most part when she was being ignored constantly she just went with it, even though it was clearly getting to her. But I think that the S6 finale really repersented a change in her, you can expect to see her finally stepping up now that Buffy isn't going to be so overprotective anymore. Plus, Michelle is too good an actress to not use in a more central role, and if they are deciding to carry on the series after this season without SMG, then they will definately need MT to carry a much bigger role, which is why I believe she is getting a much bigger role for S7.

I'm sorry, but I totally have to disagree with your analysis of Dawn. You ask what Dawn whines about? I think a better question would be, what doesn't Dawn whine about. "Buffy, take me with you." She's not going on a picnic, she's going to fight vampires for pete's sake. Let's not forget, vampires, deadly, dangerous, not an outing you want your little sister accompanying you on. I also don't find it very amusing that every time Dawn tries to "help," she ends up getting herself in trouble and causing more problems for everyone involved.

I'd have to say that while that was Xander's MO in the past, he's grown up quite a bit. I mean sure, there was that whole thing with the singing demon monster, but he's learned his lesson. 🙂

Yeah, the pretty recent past too, and he was a lot older and stuff then Dawn is now. You people forget that if Dawn acts like a kid at times its because...guess what? SHE IS A TEEN-AGER, that means you can expect her to act immature at times. Does she have to be perfect to impress you people? She's not going to be, you act like she was the only one acting disturbed last season, everyone was screwed up last season, and in season 5 she had a lot to deal with, more then a 14 year old should have to. I agree that she is way overprotected, but that should change...in more then one way. I think even Joss and Co. have realized that not only Dawn is growing up, but so is Michelle. She has said she's tired of Dawn being scripted, treated, and dressed like a kid. What does that mean? Well, could be that she'll be dressing more like Buffy did when she first started at Sunnydale HS, as in, definately not like a kid, which is fine for Dawn or Michelle, Dawn is supposed to be 15 quickly going on 16, and Michelle is almost 17, so if she doesn't want to act or dress like a little kid anymore, thats her call if you ask me.

If they are gonna use this season to sow the seeds for Dawn and friends to take over the reigns of the show i'd rather they just wound it up now and put an end to it. I do'nt think i could handle Dawn The Vampire Slayer: The New Class...

Archmage48, my comment was not meant to upset you, merely to convey one person's opinion on a subject matter. It seems that every time I reply to your comments you get more and more frustrated with me, therefore I resolve that we end the discussion on Dawn and get back to the original topic of the thread.

Well, I like Dawn as a charecter, and I think Michelle is an excellent actress, and it annoys me that people tend to come down rather hard on her(Michelle)for that, and its not her fault, its the writers and Joss who give her the material. And for that matter, she should be awarded for taking the material meant to make people hate her and doing it so very well. You have to admit that however you feel about Dawn that Michelle is an outstanding actress to emit such strong opinions about the charecter she plays. Because while I frequently see people whining about Dawn, I only rarely hear anything negative about Michelle, even SMG has been heard to give her all kinds of glowing compliments about her acting ability, and SMG is a truely outstanding actress herself. But I really hope that the idea that they will give Dawn a more mature role is very cool to me, because her charecter has maybe more open possibilities then anyone else, its just that everyone has this irritating tendency to only see the bad in her, and not the possibility that given better writing for her, that Dawn could easily become one of the best charecters in the history of the show.

So in this synopsis of what could very well be next season's premiere, Dawn and co. find themselves in Sunnydale HS's basement surrounded by dead people? So is it too far fetched to think that these dead people are actually the cameo appearances of the Master, Glory, and Warren?

No, I think from what I've read they are actually people mad at Buffy, people from the old HS, whom she couldn't save.

slay err i agree with your idea, whicih soinds just dandy with all that joss has said in the info on this thread

Archmage48 where did you read that, cause share! it sounds intrigueing
but we know how joss like tpo screw with our heads until the last momment when he blows us away with wowness so im just gonna have to wait arent?

I forget where I read that, it was in an article I found on Slayage.com, if you search back on the articles they have on there you should be able to find it.

I think Michelle and Dawn are two different people. Actually, Dawn isn't even a person. She is a made up fictional character created just for the purpose of our entertainment. Anyways, I think Michelle does an excellent job at playing that character and is an outstanding actress. However, I just don't like the character of Dawn...but I do like Michelle! Just not Dawn...am I making any sense?

From the way Michelle was talking at a recent panel thing they had at the Academy in June, it sounded like even she was a little tired of the way she's had to be playing Dawn, so we are definately not alone in wishing the writers would stop doing there level-best to make Michelle make us hate Dawn. I must say, that after I watched 'Gone', and 'Wrecked', that Michelle can give off one of the scarier glares on the show, I'd say that only AH and JM are better in that dept.

What? What?! Does this mean Buffy isn't going to be the librarian? Well, this is definitely the worst news I've heard all day.🙄 ...But I guess dreams are shattered everyday.::crying::

Okay, back to reality. This sounds ?interesting?. I don't think Kit and Carlos are going to be staying for too long. It seems a bit like Buffy, Willow, and Xander.

Buffy was supposed to be the librarian?! That would have been cool!--- but anwayz, I can't wait to see how they have Dawn this season.. it's bout time she grew up, and bout that everyone else stopped treating her like a little kid 🙄

I'm looking forward to the season premiere Lessons. This should be a good season for Dawn/Michelle. A more grown up Dawn sounds great. A few new and old characters will broaden the canvas and spread out the stories. The show won't feel so claustophobic and the characters won't be so isolated. I like the idea of Buffy helping out troubled kids at the school in a part-time manner. Next season there will be real villains and threats. Season seven sounds cool.

Nah, she wasn't supposed to be the librarian; that was just a little joke I made up and kept holding onto. I was hoping she would be, but not happenin'.
