7.01... Shapeshifter or madness

When I first saw the episode I just thought that Spike was mad and seeing all the previous big bads, but it was symbolism for us. Then I came on here and you all said it was a shapeshifter. But then in 7.02 it's all madness again.

So is tehre really a shapeshifter or is it all in Spike's Head?
 
I'm pretty sure there is a shape shifter of some sort. I don't think Spike realizes it though. I think he really may believe what he was seeing was all in his head.
 
and HOW did Spike clean up so WELL in Ep2? I mean... the second I saw that I thought HE was the shapeshifter... I mean... suddenly he's all cool and mot crazy and looking hot with the "nancy-boy hair gel" and all suave and wanting to help? two days ago he was all crazy and stuff.

But apparently it really was him. weird.
 
Maybe we can chalk up Spike's recovery to vampire recuperative powers. 😛

I missed Eps 2 (damn me to H-E-double hockey-sticks), but could the shapeshifter be related to Spike's still installed brain chip?

Just spitballing, but isn't he still the only one who sees it?
 
Could be him. Dont know what to expect of him really. One minute I think he's Spike then he goes all weird and that's makes me think he could be the shapeshifter.

But I doubt it. He has enough to deal with having his soul back .He's probably the big bad's minion but just dosent know it.
 
::wave:: it's real, it always real! Spike have a lot of quilt over all the people he killed, but he not insane!😉 He saw Dawn and called her "Lil'bit"...He called her by the name he always called her. He didn't call her "shinning green light" or shadow. like all the other insane people call her.🙂
 
shapeshifter yeah... that sounds like logic, but spike's got nothing to do with it, hopefully 😉
 
it has to be a shapeshifter. spike never met mayor wilkins. but like some other people said, he just thought he was seeing hallucinations.
 
OK, this is what I think. It's not Spike. Shapeshifter, maybe. But really, the Biggest Bad Ever. This is the Hellmouth, it's re-opening, this thing is there and has knowlege of every other BB since Buffy's arrival in Sunnydale. Willow said all the way from England - it's all connected. What I'm thinking, albeit 2 episodes in - is that this is the Grand-daddy of all Evil, the Source if you will. As Buffy said, it's about about who's got the power. It's what the whole show is about: good vs. evil.
 
IMHO, Spike really is unbalanced (as was Angel at first) remembering every appalling thing he ever did, hearing the voices of his victims, etc., but he also has periods of lucidity.

When he was in the school basement, however, the Big Bad would play with his mind whenever It got bored or something, which made him think he was crazier than he was.

When he left the basement, presumably during one of his saner periods, he cleaned himself up and offered to help Buffy and Xander out with the worm problem.

But Anya seeing his soul (which he was trying to keep secret) and later his chip activating because he impaled the worm-monster just as it was returned to human form, sent him over the edge again.
 
oh yes - but did his chip actually work? did you notice his facial reaction after impaling Randy (?) w/ the pole?

it looked to me as if he was so used to having a bad mental jolt after hurting a human - that he was taken by surprise when it didn't happen.

which would mean that when he was restored to how he was before - he received his soul - as well as having the chip removed. so now he is free to hurt humans and feed on them - but will his soul, his conscious, let him? really allowing him to test who and what he is now.

just a thought.
 
no.... the chip's still there I think.. My take is that he THOUGHT that it would be gone too. afterall, he could hit Anya and Buffy... but then Anya's a demon and he can hit Buffy because of some chemical thingy. He COULD have killed the worm. But mid thrust the worm became human again. therefore killing a human. Just one more thing to send Spike into a spiral or guilt.
 
Right in my opinion it goes this way!
There's no shapeshifter - the seasons big bad is playing with Spike's head probably trying to get him to join their side again or something like that. He's overwrought with guilt and doesn't quite know how to deal with his newly restored soul (see 7.02 "Angel should have warned me!")

As for him cleaning up for a little while in the second episode I think it was an act. He tried to ignore whatever was going on in his head or soul and just genuinly tried to help out because he knows something bad is comeing. But then when he stabbed worm-man the pain from the chip and the overwhelming knowledge of what he did was wrong sent him back over the edge, making him all crazy again.

It is very possible that what i just wrote makes no sense what so ever but it does in my head. Honest!!!
 
Shapeshifter.. No i don't think so. That would be a real lame letdown as a BB.

However, a force for evil? One that is trying to show Spike that he can't get away; that he is just a tool, and one that hasn't been discarded yet? Yes that fits.

It manifested to Spike as the personification of various evils and almost seemed to claim responsibility for them. It obviously has some kind of connection too, because it plays them to the tee. No shapeshifter could act 'just like' the mayor like that without perhaps being able to 'tune in' to who he was.

What scares me is the Glory personification. She is heavy Mojo, so if it is claiming to have been the driving force behind her it has to be pretty scary.
 
I think that the thing talking to Spike was the Hellmouth. It appears to Spike since he is not all there right now. It is using him to get what it wants. It shows him all of these people he's dealt with. He was there for all of them, he even knew the master. Buffy was to make him really crazy. That's just my idea anyway

Did you actually cook this up yourself or was that one of your famous dreams?
Does not really matter what's going to happen with him, as long as stays in the show, honey! You know how I feel about him and Buffy getting back together again.
did you get the letter with the new eps in them? 7.04 is brilliant, you'll see.
