8.22: "Swell" (*spoilers*)

This is why I'd rather not read any of the comics. Because then I might be one of those buffyverse friends that gets lost. I would rather watch the seven seasons I've seen a million times and be happy then try and read this new crap that I think is a fatal mistake. When something is great leave it be let it pass away and be remembered as it was. Don't try and keep it going.

This was mentioned a few times in this thread so I'll put this observation here. Mainly the ridiculousness that is the public's opinion that Vampires are good, due largely to Harmony's Reality program.

Ridiculous, YES!

Seems to me that this is a thinly disguised barb at all the Buffy / Angel copy-cat programs.

The public being that is being fooled may not be the imaginary comic public but the real one that is watching these horrific shows.

In interviews Joss states that he respects Twilight, but as Anya said - When I was evil I lied all the time.

I suspect that Joss hates this crap and this is his subtle shot at the pretenders.

My 2 cents

I would have agreed with you two days ago, but After the Fall makes a little sense about the S8 Buffy Season Eight: Predators & Prey Arc:
Harmony is not the sole reason vamps are appreciated by the public. Angel & Spike got the entire city of Los Angeles out of hell, so now those 13million residents know them both as Vampire Champions & Celebrities.
Don't get me wrong, I dislike the concept, but if both series are adopting it, it seems legit.

But are the time-lines concurrent? I didn't think that things were happening at the same time in the two comics.

Still, that makes 3 apparently good vamps out of... how many tens of thousands of murderous ones?

Still doesn't make sense, especially considering
the people of L.A. got to see the murderous ones up close and personal for quite an extended period of time.

Okay, I JUST got this issue today.

It was terrible. In fact, this may be the thing that makes me break up with Buffy S8. The thrill is gone. After a bunch of sub-par and not terribly interesting issues, they hand us THIS crap? I mean, fanged kitty dolls? Seriously? Somebody's been watching too much anime.

You should stick with it, I think. I suspect the next few issues will be better.

"Swell" has grown on me a bit since I read it first, mostly because of Satsu and Kennedy being so cool and bad-ass.

I still think the Vampy Cats were stupid, though.

It's worth noting that the dolls were never intended to be the real threat to the Slayers. That demon in Tokyo was sent out there with the bag of Vampy Cats so that the Slayers would find them and take action. That action consisted of blowing up a freighter ship which (as far as the world knows) was crewed by innocent living humans, and blowing up a factory that (as far as the world knows) was making cute stuffed animals.

Twilight's game: use misdirection to manipulate the Slayers into digging their own hole and painting themselves as terrorists.
