81st Academy Awards

The Oscars aired last night... who watched? I'm such an awards show junkie we watched the countdown to the red carpet/ the red carpet (on 3 different channels!) the ceremony and the afterparty coverage after on E! lol :biggrin: This telecast of the Oscars was seriously just SO amazing, the best I've seen in my lifetime by far! Hugh Jackman was such an incredible host, his opening number was gold.. he was so funny and just seemed so at ease up there! I especially loved the way they presented the acting categories by having 5 previous Oscar winners from that category come out and recognize each nominee... ity almost made it feel like they were all winners... I cried during every category! How did you guys like the show? How do you feel about the winners? (I was so happy for Kate and Penelope!) The Fashion? ( My top fave was Anne Hathaway followed by Amy Adams and Taraji P. Henson!)

My Downey of course didn't win, it went to Heath as predicted and it was lovely, BUT Robert looked SO good AND claimed best dressed male by E!'s Fashion Police! :biggrin:

I'm all about the Oscars - but was it a suprise to any body to see the best actor ceremony? One of the best actors from the past was the creepy demon guy trying to kill Dawn in "The Gift?"

Tell me you caught that!

I didn't see enough movies last year to have much interest. Plus yet again I wasn't nominated. I'm so unsung.

Im a fellow awards show junkie, i was slightly dissapointed though seemed a lil cheesy with all the singing and didnt care that much for hugh jackman but overall it was ok. I was very pleased about Kate and Sean loved the whole camera on brangelinas face when Jennifer Aniston came out and she looked great by the way.
Liked all the references to gay marraige and how much people are wanting it approved, still havent seen slumdog millionaire but im going to have to now to see what all the fuss is about.

Why does everyone assume that the camera's on Jolie because Aniston was on stage? The camera's went to Jolie after Jack Black made a joke about Kung Fu Panda, oh yeah a movie they both voiced for. I don't think the director of the Oscars was going for the 'death glare' on the one night where it's not about private lives it's about their careers and achievments.
I thought Hugh Jackman did a fantastic job! It was one of those openings that is going to be talked about for years and other openings will be compared to. Having five actors present the supporting and lead actor awards was very cool. The lower bowl seating of the Kodak made it a very intimate atmosphere.
Best song category was a miss IMO.

I haven't caught the whole thing yet but I made it my business to see Heath Ledger's family accept (his very much deserved) Oscar. I genuinely teared up watching that, especially seeing the audiences' reaction.

I also saw the routine with Beyonce et al. Meh. It was ok, I wasn't bowled over by any means.

I haven't seen the whole thing so I withold judgement on Jackman just now but from what I have seen Ellen still retains the title of best host ever in my mind.

Joel Grey, star of screen and stage, with an Oscer of his own, a star on the Walk Of Fame, singer, dancer, choreographer, and now, "that creepy demon guy." Ah, fame is but a fleeting thing, a butterfly's shadow flitting across a windowsill, gone almost before it arrived.

God, I feel old.

I've only watched bits and pieces, but I think it was sort of a shame that Mickey Rourke didn't win Best Actor. Sean Penn is great, and I've heard many good things about Milk, but I like Rourke so much more ^^
Hugh Jackman annoyed me a bit, and the award for Heath Ledger was completely desrved and his family and the audience and everything was just terribly touching. That's about all I've seen so far, but I am planning to watch more some time soon.
