I heared this question on the radio today, and found it quite interesting. People always talk about how the world has changed since september 11th, but did it really? and in what perspective?

i think the "american world" has changed more around 9-11 than the rest of the world. at least the us, was very careful afterwards... and i think the "world of the american-musims" were different, and Bush started the whole war on terror... and he changerd the life of people, in Afganistan, and now Irak...
But if the WHOLE world is different?
I don't think so, i don't think that europe, asia(not the middle-east) and australia is that different, than before 9-11, exept most coutries have had some sort of against the irak war... or for it
i wasn't envolved personaly with 9-11, and the same goes for mosst of the people in Norway, and besides we're this little country at the other side of the world...
i think the "did the world change much since 9-11"-question, will get different answers, depending on where you live!

UM...people died and we deserved it? MANY people died. Many people have lost loved ones to this terrible tragedy. Please attempt to be more sensitive when answering this type of question-your world may not have been turned upside down by this event, but others were.

IM MAD that people died, no one deserved death NO ONE!!!, but we neded to open our eyes. This should have made us understand that killing is evil yet we go to irak and KILL KILL KILL more people died there than in america but do we care NO. Bush wants more....hello we went there for no reason, no wepons of mass distruction we wasted our time and we killed more that we needed to. My friend in coloroado lost his brother who was 21 in irak and its horible....we need to stop and so do they this world is gonna end because of war eather soon or far future. Death is distruction! And I dont want it no one does.........I cry when i hear of all the people that died and Im not being insensitive by saying we deserve this........we kiled more of there people than they did of ours, but no one mourns (sp?) about them our countrey could care less....Im sorry if i gave u an impression that i was being insensitive Im just sayin about how I feel and how disapointed I am about all of it.......Im sorry.

No matter where you live, your world has changed due to the 9/11 events.
The american economy has been severely damaged and this has repercussions all over the world, since the involvement of US multies affects all countries they are dealing with and wherever they have offices. People everywhere lost their jobs due to headcount reductions and the effect is long term.
Security has changed for all of us too - whenever you want to travel/ fly to the US or anywhere else in the world, your background is screened as if you were entering a country behind the iron curtain. Everybody is assumed a terrorist unless proven different. Where are the times, when you were assumed innocent until proven guilty!?
I have stopped travelling to the US all together, since I do not wish to have my personal life turned upside down. I cannot see my friends over there again because of the paranoid attitude of the Bush Administration.
I also feel sorry for the American people, who can't even check-out a book from the library anymore without having their reading habits checked by some sort of security agency. Homeland Security it is called by the current government - Gestapo methods is what I call it. USA - Land of the Free ? Not any more. Security is the second most expensive thing in this world - you pay with your freedom.

Personally, and probably quite selfishly, I don't mind the extra security going to and from the US. I had no objection to having my shoes searched or my case opened by security staff (nothing got stolen!) if it means that me and mine don't get blown up or hi-jacked. It's a minor inconvenience if it prevents another 9/11. I didn't feel that my freedom had been compromised: just felt a bit safer in the air.
I don't know about paying for security with your freedom, it seems to me that if you've got nothing to hide you've got nothing to fear. Don't get me wrong - I don't think any government has come through the last two years smelling of roses, least of all the UK and the US (and whether Bush is legitimately President anyway is open to debate) but the world has changed as a result of 9/11 and we just have to get on with our lives and deal with it.

well, my life hasn't changed... not for moste of the people around me either... (then again i'm NOT american.. i think people see things diffrenty in the light of this event, depending on where in the world you live...

I think it's tragick that all does people died 9-11-01, but it's not MORE tragick then all the people that die in wars, from hunger, from being sick, or who die under miletary dictatorships like in Burma... i think that's very important to see... that people die everyday all over the world, even from terrorism.... i might acually call that, worse cases than 9-11, not counting the nr of dead people, but taking into acount the ability to protect themselfs....
(BTW not wanting to tick anyone of with this, i know people can be very on the offensive when it comes to 9-11, bush and so on...🙂 i just want to express my opinion about 9-11, that i DO think of it as VERY tragick, but i do think that other things that happens in the world are MORE tragick, and that other countries have suffered more(Still not saying that you DIDN'T suffer, cos i do know that you did!!) just saying that there are people who can't say what they want, or do what they want... and i'm not talking about Irak or other Muslim countries, ther are places, like burma, where the chosen leader, is not promitted by the military to be the leader. and now she's been kiddnapped by the military and she's been held in prison, no one knows where!! And in Northern-Irland, the catholics there can't go outside their neibourhoods, their kids can't move around without being afraid, and there is military every where...

I actually live right close to where WTC stood. When the planes hit I heard the explosion and the building where I'm in shook for a few seconds. 🙁 My heart was racing for the rest of the day and the week.
Today's the 2-year anniversary. Not even during WWII have we been this vulnerable. Even when Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan were coming from both sides, there was this sense of hope that carried the day. Today, I don't know if we can say that. Yes, there are people doing what they can to make things better and I'm immensely grateful for that. However, we face a world that is perhaps just as dangerous or even more than during WWII and the Cold War.
We are regarded as an enemy by those who are unwilling or unable to use their talents for the greater good. The so-called world bodies like to blame the victim instead being deferential to the atrocity committed. While the families of those lost are remembering their dead, others around the world (except for those who felt a kind of solidarity with us) simply snicker at us or even found it a good thing. It is why the fight we're in right now is long and hard.
There is some cause for hope, though. We're doing everything we can to help the people in Iraq and Afganistan rebuild from scratch. American and coalition troops are putting their lives in danger so that we would have viability as a nation for the future. Let's take this day to be thankful for those who have put on the uniform, whether it be military, police or firefighting, and have done a stellar job under outstanding circumstances. 🙂

I agree with Lost Angel, no-one deserved to die (except maybe the hijackers in the planes), but the world needed to get a wake up call. Problem is I don't think everyone got it, Bush did hear it, but paniced, he clearly didn't see a deeper meaning in this, and so, instead of trying to save what's left, he goes out destroying and killing (and getting oil!) for no reason.
The thing you're telling now, is kind of the reason, we seem to hate you sometimes, it's this funny little thing called 'arrogance of power' ... "You're so high and mighty, you've started thinking you're immortal" - Spike (dunno what ep) ... and in this context, I mean, that you, Americans have become so powerful, that you don't even critise yourself anymore, you place yourself above others. American companies are put under pressure not to trade with countries that were against the war in Iraq, and trade with 'good'-countries instead, unfortunatly the Netherlands is one of the good guys, because our Harry Potter look-a-like prime-minister also thinks George Bush is high and mighty and was too scared to stand up for himself, and the rest of the country. But anyways, that's the european vision on America ... off course I know you're not all like that, but some of y'all might just be, and ur government surely is.
No, the world I live in has hardly changed, most people haven't changed, some have, but most of them for the worst, those who do seem to know what is going on are just clueless. And for me goes, I haven't changed, the only thing that changed is one on my suspisions got confirmed ... I will get to see the end of the world, and if we stay on this role, it'll be sooner then expected.
