Did I accuse you of not-caring?

Most people are quite comfortable, ok, you lived near the WTC, so I asume you feel a bit different about this, but there are 6.5 billion people on this planet and only 3000 died there, anybody who doesn't live near Manhattan, doesn't feel that same threat. I hope you can understand that, we can't possibly feel that, but to say we're all comfortable with it, I dunno, I personally am known for never ever panicing.
 
I'm going to remind you all to play nice and if anyone carries on sniping I or another mod will close the thread. This is a highly emotive subject, one for which I will keep my opinions to myself, because my views are not the same as everyone else's and I would not wish to offend anyone else. Please think of this before you post, have respect for the other members of this community, and for those who died.
 
Ok, first off, don't mean to be 'sniping', I know I can sound a bit harsh, but that's because I try to be truthful. And obviously I also respect those who've died, ban anyone, who doesn't.
 
bit OT, but I did, I recently stumbled down the stairs, my pinky toe was all black and blue (looked more like purple to me) ... it still hurts and it was like a week ago.

all yall check this...america had the right to regulate Afghanistan...and they did...even though america is forgetting about afghanistan...that country is on the road to recovery from muslim extremism...

in my opinion as an american....shouldn't have regulated Iraq....wasn't a viable threat...wasted needed money for the economy and the support structure of the military...

I feel deeply sorry for the families and the people that died but life goes on in Australia and nothing has really changed, its not the first time so many lives have been lost.

Heh never thought I'd hear that. I'm asking people not to start making insults on a personal or international level; aruge all you wan, but stick to the rules of be polite and be respectful 🙂

Okay can you explain how America has the right to regulate any other country but their on. The days of imposition by other countries, empires and the like are well past IMO

Afganistan was a stable country under Taliban regime, now it is one big chaos, with lots of smaller rebel groups trying to seize power in the areas out side the UN control.
 
"Regulate" - what a nice euphemism 😉.

I'm not sure to what extent any state should have the right to interfere in the internal affairs of another. I guess "endangering the international community" would be the card played against Afghanistan and its terrorist allies/supporters but I can't see that justification for the war against Iraq - over a hundred days since the war finished and still no WMD's!

taliban was just a front for al queda...taliban was originally a group of muslim scholars that were at the edge of extremeism...as we all know...scholars make horrible soldiers....but al-queda liked their point of view and supported them with soldiers in their network after the fall of the muja ha din...pretty much...al queda ran that show...which gave osama bin laden pretty much Mulla status in that country...

Sorry to correct Soulgasm, but America had very little to do with Nazi Germany until near the end of the war; Poland was stable when Nazi Germany invaded; which as I'm sure we are all aware, was a abd thing. Germany was *very* unstable prior to the invasion of Alsace Lorraine, and before lebensraum with Austria, and that was how Hitler managed to rise to power; through the cult of the personality, and the diabolical financial situation.

And although this will probably be a contentious point; the division of Germany under the assorted powers after the end of the war caused many problems; my former german teacher grew up in American occupied Germany. Aged 7 she was made to sit in her school hall, watch cinefilm footage of the war, of the concentration camps. They were then told how evil the german people were, and how they would burn in hell for what had been done. She was barely born when the war finished. Hardly the best way to move forward.

Edited to say: I've just realised how OT this has gotten........we need to get back on track 🙂

Never said he had a tenuous grip on power; but he was extremely fortunate, if one can term it such, to rise to power.

Some fanatic anti-Bush ppl can get their argument from this piece above.

Germany, 193?, when Hitler rose on an economic bad time, and Hitler offered the angry people diversion, in the form of providing them with an enemy (Jews) and having his people stand behind him as one and attack their enemy.

US, present time, there's an economic recession, the president offers the people an enemy to fear and hate, to take their minds of off things, his people stand behind him as one against the enemy (terrorist/muslims) allowing him to strike at will.

Anyone see the similarities?
