Episode title: The Zeppo
Season: three

Discuss this episode here! What were your likes and dislikes? Favorite moments? Can you believe that Xander and Faith had all the fun they did?

Wow so glad I look here today, just re-watched the ep, and loved it! I think that this is really Xanders time to shine. When watching this episode I think Nicholas really proved that he belonged on the show, and those non-Xander fans got an appreciation of him. As well it is great for the character as it helps him grow, and show himself (and us) that he is better than the "expendable"
In typical Jossness it is an episode within an episode as we get glimpses of the other situation that is going on.
Some of my fav quotes...

Xander: You're in a band. That's like a business-class ticket to cool with complimentary mojo after take-off. I gotta learn an instrument. Is it hard to play guitar?
Oz: Not the way I play it.

Xander: Long gone. Probably loaded with supplies. Gotta think. I can't believe I had sex. Okay, bombs. Already dead guys with bombs.

I loved the way this episode was written. What the writers did was focus on a supporting character instead of the impending doom that was approaching. While we got a sense of all the seperate storylines that were going on all around, they were not the key focus. This episode made it seem more important that Xander found his place as part of the group than the end of the world/impending doom. Very well done.

well said!
Never been a big fan of xander based episodes, this one isnt bad though, some good moments, my favourites been oz and xanders i use this term loosly "chat" of the essence of cool, just love oz in that scene its classic, also cordelias put down of xander the whole zeppo speech and of course the shocking revelation that giles is a jelly donut fan lol other than that not that big a fan of the episode but it has its moments, also the xander faith scene may be considered a big moment especially since i dont believe its ever mentioned again, i dont remember the scoobies ever knowing that xander lost his virginity to faith : erm :

It comes up in Consequences when Xander wants to talk to Faith since they got this "connection".
Pretty soon the whole gang understand what kind of connection he means.

The Xander part of this story has never been my favorite.
Not sure why... but the whole raising the dead thing and so on never really got me interested.
It's a great journey Xander does though and I like the end results of it.

The idea with this huge world ending event that we only get to glimpses of is absolutely brilliant. One of the best ideas ever.
It makes me laugh that we get to see so little of it and only hears some of the stories afterward, so funny.

willow totally knew, hence crying in the toilets
I´m not in love with Xander... And the Zombie thing was kinda trashy...

But I really like the weirdo idea of Xander and Faith getting together xD It´s totally unexpected, at least for me.

willow knows about faith and xander, awwww her ickle heart broke.... in the toilets

this episode rocks (yeah i love xander) but you get his whatever walking away from cordy thing,
zeppocq5.gif

and the great perspective of how cliched the tv show really is... we see the outsiders perspective of the apocalypse thing.. and xander interrupting a bangel moment (which rips its self totally)

one of my favorites also, for many a reason.
Ahahahahaha Ok, you´re right about this, THAT was really cool! The end of the episode was a moral lesson, but Xander would be always the Zeppo.. someone called him that in the latest seasons, I think.

Do you do the gifs? It´s really great!

i do do them a lot... might have seen some of them around the board lol (pernys dr.horrible finger thing) and thankies 🙂

i remember warren calling xander shemp later on in season 6

They are great!
I posted this over a year ago:
'The moment i saw it I was mesmerized, it felt as if 3 hours passed by and the show was only half way through, Which i loved, because I was loving the ep. The story followed Xander around which was the best possible thing they could have done!! Throughout the entire following around of Xander an entirely different world ending story is going on that know one wants to fill him in on, all the while while he save's all there lives in the end. Doing the deed with Faith ^.^ Hanging with dead people, Saving the school, all in one night, then acting all cool in the morning. I really loved the entire concept of just following him around and seeing everything through his eyes basically.'

That was when I had forgotten completely about Buffy episodes, and it was basically super new and I hadn't seen the ep in years. It blew me away and it still does til this day. This is Xander's best episode of the season, maybe even of the series. Isn't it?!! Is their a better one? I was already in love with his character but after watching it *Bah - Lown (Blown) Away!* Hehe I think this might even be my favorite episode in season three, but their are so many of them that I truly enjoyed in season three. I guess if I wasn;t the biggest Xander fan as I was at this point I might have felt differently about the episode but my philosophy at the time with his character was "Awesome awesome and more awesome." That's changed hehe but at that time he was golden.

This is one of my alltime favorite episodes. I love Xander, so Xander based eps are always a favorite.

I liked the concept of this episode, seeing the apocolypse from outside the perspective of the main fighting guys. I remember reading an article about this episode that a fan had written round about the time it aired, and she was griping about how she couldn't understand what was happening with Buffy and the Hellmouth, 'cause the story kept flicking back to Xander and the dead guys, and she couldn't follow the apocalyspe story and she wanted to see what happened, not Xander and the bomb, and I remember thinking 'that was the whole point!' The whole point of the episode was to see from the perspective of the non-super hero person, the guy on the outside, who always has to stand by and watch. And I really liked that.

For some reason, I really like the fact that Xander lost his virginity to Faith. It made him feel good...for about a week, before Faith went all evil. I've never shipped Xander/Faith, but I always thought they would have made good friends, if they'd had the time.

The dead guys annoyed me. If Jack O'Toole had to wait until the stars aligned before he could do the spell to bring back his friends, how did his grandfather manage to bring him back?

Cordelia was fabulous, as always. Her scathing comments to Xander about being the Zeppo were callous and completely on form. And a little bit sad, in retrospect, as her father's money troubles might have been kicking in at this point, and she was reverting to type to stop anyone finding out, and to stop herself from falling apart, something which she later did, in Xander's presence, no less.

The last scene, where Xander finally finds the self respect to ignore Cordelia and and not let her comments get to him, is one of my favorite ever scenes. The little smile on his face as he walks away, and Cordy yelling 'What?' pure greatness. Although part of me wanted him to kiss her on the cheek or something, just to prove he's really over her.

One thing that did bother me about the ep, is the fact that this is the only ep where Buffy and the gang really urge Xander to stay out of the fight, worried he might get hurt. I mean, nine episodes later, Buffy's calling him her 'key guy' in her plan to take down the Mayor!

Your....your....your avatar!
i agree with the whole xander staying out of it thing and then suddenly he's the key guy... but i think for the purpose of this ep thats how it had to be, how xander was seeing himself... i wish the whole him not being in the fight thing coulda been for another reason than them pushing him out tho.

This is another one of my favourite episodes. A lot of fantastic ones in season 3, I love season 3! A brilliant Xander episode, seeing things from his point of view. More great charcacter-buliding with laughs. And some great quotes too.

Giles: There's something... different about this... menace, something in the air... The stench of death.
Xander: Yeah, I think it's Bob.

Xander: Hey! They're not baking any cake.

Xander: Well, uh, gimme the quiet life. I'm gonna grab a snack. Anyone want?
Giles: No, thank you.
Xander: Oz?
Oz: No. I'm oddly full today.

Xander: Yeah, but this is different. Being blowed up isn't walking around and drinking with your buddies dead. It's little bits being swept up by a janitor dead, and I don't think you're ready for that.
Jack: Are you?
Xander: I like the quiet.

And I love a good Marx Brothers reference.
