Discuss the episode Helpless. What were your likes and dislikes? Favorite quotes from this episode? Could you believe that Giles would actually administer the test?
 
This was a great episode in my opinion. Not only because there's Buffy vs. The Council and beautiful Bangel moments but mostly because of Giles and Buffy and the lovely relationship that they have.
It's hard to believe Giles was actually the one taking all her power away but he had a job at the time. One that he later risked and lost for her safety.
But before I knew what was going on the question "Will Buffy lose her powers for good?" was around. And for her too. If she didn't have any strenght what was she supposed to do? She really felt helpless.

But into funny scenes now lol I like these ones:

Xander: You know, maybe we're on the wrong track with the whole spell,
curse and whammy thing. Maybe what we should be looking for is something
like, um, (ahem) Slayer kryptonite.

Oz: Faulty metaphor. Kryptonite kills.

Xander: You're assuming I meant the green kryptonite. I was referring,
of course, to the red kryptonite, which drains Superman of his powers.

Oz: (thinks) Wrong. The gold kryptonite's the power-sucker. The red
kryptonite mutates Superman into some sort of weird...

Buffy: (impatiently) Guys? Reality?

Buffy grabs a new jar of peanut butter and tries to open it.

Buffy: Just feel better when I get my strength back.

Xander: Give you a hand with that, little lady?

Buffy: You're loving this far too much.

Xander: Admit it. Sometimes you just need a big
strong man.

He struggles with the jar for a while, then tries to cover it with a
laugh.

Xander: Uh, Will, gimme a hand with that?

lol

And about Angel's gift, it's a copy of "Sonnets from the Portuguese" hehe you knew I had to mention that.

Another great episode. Yeah, I know I say that about pretty much every episode... but what can you do.

Can't say that test make much sense to me though.
Seems very unnecessary. A slayer not good enough to handle the test will probably not survive for long anyway.
The council doesn't make much sense at all actually. They really should rethinking the way they handle their slayers.

One my favorites moments is when Buffy tries to ask Giles to take her to the ice show. Such a sweet scene.
Buffy: If someone were free, they'd take their daughters or their student... or their Slayer.

Not sure if Giles ignores her on purpose because he feels bad about what he is doing to her or he just so into his on thoughts with the crystals and stuff that he just doesn't listen.

Who would've ever thought that we'd see Buffy asking Cordelia for help.
 
I love Helpless. This was probably the season 3 episode that made me cry the most. I don't know who I felt the most sorry for; Buffy or Giles. Both of them seemed so helpless (Huh, I just realised I typed that XD). But I LOVED the way she killed him with the holy water. Pure genius. I really love this episode 🙂
 
I actually really disliked this episode the first time I saw it. But after rewatching it a couple times, I like it.

The scene where Buffy finds out Giles betrayed her is so heart wrenching...at first I was truly mad at Giles, but I understood why he had to do it, and he obviously felt horribly about it. I love the last scene where he's cleaning her wounds, and you can tell they're gonna be just fine.

Oh, and I love Angel's present. Bangel = <3

I still skip sometimes it cos it makes me mad at Giles.
This episode was almost certainly set up to serve as the final step in Giles' ultimate dissatisfaction with the Council. He had committed the major No-No by actually establishing a less than professional relationship with his charge, probably beginning with or even before Buffy's confrontation with the Master. His "father's pride" had fully developed by this time, and I personally find it hard to imagine that he would have actually allowed the test to take place. At the last moment, he would have either warned her or gone in with her.

The question has arisen before as to, if this is a common test which every Slayer must undergo if she reaches a certain age, why didn't Faith have to do the same thing? Probably because Giles, by that time almost completely at odds with Council policy as associated with the Slayers, warned her in advance.
 
I love this episode, very very much. It was so sad seeing Buffy feel so betrayed by Giles but the ending was nice. This episode touched me alot. It really made me hate the Council & I'm so glad Buffy got herself away from that. I was really pissed through alot of the episode as well. It really infuriated me & I was a little disappointed with Giles but I understood in the end why he had to do what he did. It was just horrible watching Buffy lose her strength & then watching Giles lie to her the whole time. This was a great episode of season 3 but then again, season 3 is one of my favs.
 
Certainly a great episode. As WA says, this is set up as the final break between Giles and the Council. It may seem strange that Giles would go along with the test as far as he did, but I think one has to factor in his past. He was "meant" to be a Watcher from birth, but rebelled and played with serious dark forces. One can imagine that it took some redemption (and perhaps persuasion by his father?) to even let him become a potential Watcher after that - and then trust the one and only Slayer to him!
I don't think it was an easy step to decide to disobey the Council after that, but in the end he did it, and I like him the more because he made a difficult but right decision.
 
Didn't like it THAT much.. It was OK, but there are definately better ones
 
Not the best ep, for sure...

It´s cool to see Buffy powerless, crying and all, fighting with Giles, but like somebody said, the Council doesn´t make sense at all.
