Why don't you lot like the fact that there's two version? If you don't want to read the writers notes, buy the normal one, if you want the writers notes, lets face it you like Angel enough to buy both, so why complain? =|

If you have to buy two you'll have to pay $4 for the regular one, plus $6 for the Director's Cut equals $10 per issue. Whereas with Buffy you only pay $3 per issue.

I've always thought that the "Director's Cut," "Extended Version," "Unrated Version," or whatever on video tapes and DVD's were great just as long as they were the FIRST version made available. Issuing one later just seems like a dirty trick to play on the consumer. Now I guess comics are getting on the band wagon, only with them, it'll be even easier to make, because they don't even have to used previously written material, they can just make something to go with the original story. I think the fans should boycott the whole thing.

Obviously, there are different reason's for the existence of different releases of the same movie. I don't think there's a uniform reason for their existence. There's a couple of common reasons, but in each movie's case there's a different story behind the different releases. And yes, in some cases, that may be just to earn a couple of extra bucks.

As to boycotting. There's a difference between just not buying a product yourself and getting a whole community not to buy it. In the case of the later, I do agree, that the fans (cause white avenger never said he'd want to organise it himself) would have to think up a good strategy to get as few people as possible to buy it.

And obviously, nobody has to buy anything. But in order to get the fullest experience, in my opinion, you would first need to buy the normal issue, just to get the story at the same time everybody else does, so you can discuss it. And then later, you need to get the Director's Cut, to get all the behind-the-scenes scoop. Again, that's just what I think gets you the fullest experience, but obviously, everybody has to decide for him/herself what they think is the experience they'd like to have. From what I've read in this thread so far though, I think there are probably a some people who feel the same way I do.

I don't see the big deal here. Comic books have been having variant covers/versions for almost as long as I've been a fan. Try collecting X-Men titles in the 90s. Then you would have something to worry about! 😉

Just stick to what you want to buy. Readers buy the basic comic. Collectors get all versions. Simple.

Then aren't you lucky that it's attached to my name and not yours.

And I do know the difference between all of those types of editions, because the original "Highlander" movie was issued in each one at one time or another. At one time or another, I have been given each version by different friends, and after watching them I could find little if any difference in any of them that warranted paying for another tape.

I just think that it is a dirty trick to pull on the fans, waiting a few months, then adding more material to a previously issued comic when it will most likely add little if anything to the story as it was originally published. If you want them, then by all means go out, spend the money, and enjoy your at best couple of pages extra. I hope it's worth it for you. As for me, I choose not to be ripped off in such a manner.

Okay, for any other example I'd be backing you up here but you shouldn't need any reason to own multiple copies of Highlander other than that the film itself is incredible and deserves multiple purchases.

The fact that I'm an actual MacLeod in no way makes me biased towards this franchise... 😀

I have been a Highlander fan from the original movie through "Endgame," plus the entire series. "The Source," however, was pure unadulterated GARBAGE. "Highlander 2" in its original form was good by comparison.

By the way, I've always thought that Duncan and Buffy would have made one swingin' team.

If I'm honest I don't think The Source was so bad. It was a lot less "Highlander" and a little too much slasher movie than we had ever seen before but I've seen it three or four times now and I certainly don't hate it. Just a pity that the original script wasn't used because that was supposedly a much better version than we got. Much more Methos than we got in Endgame, which was a definite plus.

Don't know which version you have seen but, if you can, try track down the Russian cut. It's the best one, by far.

There were tons of Highlander/Buffy crossover fan fictions at one time, but I guess they all got pulled. The Adult Fan Fiction Net had some the last time I was there, but that was years ago.
