A Bangel, Spuffy question.
Who decides the name of the pairing?
Bangel is Buffy and Angel as denoted by the name, as B refers to Buffy and angel is Angel So why isn't it Bike?
On the other hand we have Spuffy, so that would bring about Auffy( Anuffy, Anguffy )
How about as Angel was Liam and Spike was William, to keep them the name pairings on a similar basis, why not Luffy? or Wuffy?

Me? my idea was if D'Hoffryn and Glory got together, but that brought back memories of the film Back to the Future .. .. D'lory (an)

Fans choose it, mainly. And they usually just say whatever sounds best.

I also think it's basically just a matter of what sounds good and has a nice ring to it. Bike, for example, would just sound very ridiculous, as there's already such a word in the English language.
Some ships don't really have a distinctive name, for example I've heard both Willara and Tillow. The point is, those both sound good, so choosing is hard.
Others, however just have one working name. I mine, seriously, would anyone take a ship seriously that was called Auffy? I don't think so!

Btw, I think this is really a nice aspect of fandom, how we come up with those cutesy ship names that outsiders don't really get.

I think it's because Bangel and Spuffy sound better. Same goes for the other ships. I used Willara before I came to BB. Now I definitely use Tillow. See what would happen if we change it...

Cangel --> Anordelia
Xanya --> Anyander
Fuffy --> Baith
Spillyria --> Illyrike
Frunn --> Gred
Fresley --> Wesled
Woz --> Ozillow
Killow --> Kennedillow

^ All sounds weird and some sound like science name of something. 😛

I noticed no-one ever said Giles/Jenny shipname. It's too hard to make one because the pronunciation of G and J are almost similar.

Just imagine the few Buffy/Giles (and there actually ARE a few) shippers. They're stuck with Biles, Guffy, Bupert, or Ruffy. No wonder there are so few of them!

Or the Riley/Buffy shippers. Biley, Ruffy, Binn, or Fuffy.
