Hi! I've been interested in Firefly for a while now, and want to start watching it soon. Should I start in the order it was meant to be in, or the order in which it aired? Also, when should I watch Serenity? And finally, what is the basic plot to the series?

Thanks!

I'm not a Charmed fan to be honest, but your banner is stunning
Definitely watch it in the order it was supposed to be. No one will tell you otherwise. Well maybe just to be mean. 😉 And Serenity (the movie not the episode) after the series. The basic plot? Cowboys in space. Just watch it, it´s great.

Kinslayer pretty much said it. It's basically a Western set in space in the future.
It's a very cool and unique show. It is different from the Buffyverse though so keep an open mind. When you're finished, tell us what you think of it!

I will take the time to break it down, as I understand it. (and I love the show but I think I understand why it didn't catch on too quickly)

From my interpretation "We" meaning humans learned how to "Terraform" meaning make other planets inhabitable for us and plants and the like. So we went along terraforming the galaxy, colonizing these planets and expanding humanity outward.

Then the central government tried to control it all. The Rebels rebelled and then eventually lost the war.

Mel and his crew were rebels. After the war they get a Firefly class cargo ship and fly around the outer regions of space, doing work somewhere between Robin Hood and up to and including outright theft.

The obstacle to my mind is that the whole concept may have been a little bit for the NON-SCI-FI element of the audience.

Compared to TREK which pretty much sums up the idea in the "These are the voyages........." intro, Firefly needed you to take a lot on faith or watch every episode.

Personally I think it a shame that it got cancelled. The cinematography alone is some of the most original as far as how we see the ship "Serenity" particularly when the ship is flying within a planets atmosphere. AWESOME.

Hope that helps. Enjoy.

So, quick question. I've decided to give Firefly a try and want to start it from the beginning. As I understood it both a movie and the first episode are called 'Serenity'? So, now I'm confused if I've loaded the right one. The one that I have loaded now is approximately the lenght of a double episode, so is that now the movie or the epiosde that is just extra long?

Must be the right one. The movie is longer than that.

I think episode 1 is a double episode, so it seems like you're on the right track.
