A Century Of The Duke!

As I post this, the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of John Wayne is coming to a close. This isn't a discussion about Wayne himself in any form, I was just wondering if anyone thinks that the Buffy franchise will be around a century from now. There are some precedents for it. Tarzan has been in the movies since, I believe, 1912, and there seems to be no end in sight for James Bond. Buffy is a phenomenon already, a failed movie that turned into a cult hit that has lived on long after the show's cancellation and seems to still be picking up new fans. Just imagine...Buffy in the Twenty Second Century.

Then there's Sherlock Holmes from the 19th century, with the Baker Street Irregulars fan group formed 47 years after Holmes was first introduced. 2 presidents, and Isaac Assimov have been among the members. Will Buffy have that iconic power? Who knows. Lord of the Rings just kind of faintly bleeped below the mainstream's radar for what? about 50, 60 years, I think, before the right person made a movie. Now it's the thing everyone's an expert on. Marvel comics - same kind of deal.

I kind of hope I'm not around in the time of the Buffyverse resurgence into the mainstream if it happens. I don't like it when the mainstream gets my stuff.

I do think Buffy will still be remembered a century from now. Of course, with the production values as terrible as they were even when the show was brand new, someone's going to feel the urge to remake it.
