A different Big Bad for S7

I loved Season 7, wouldn't want it any different...But I would have the return of The Master ( new and improved ). OR A hybrid of all the big bads! On snap..

So a hybrid of the Big Bads would be someone who has the Master’s obsession with tradition and the Old Ones, the sadistic cunningness of Angelus, the gleeful offbeat wit of the Mayor, the hyper-intelligence of Adam, and the Trio/Dark Willow’s ability to conjure up powerful magic for selfish purposes?

I think that many of you found the First Evil as an unacceptable villain, because he represented an internal danger for each of the characters, instead of an external one. It's easier to watch a movie or television series in which the enemy is someone or something external. It's hard to do so with a villain that represented one's internal flaws or darkness. For me, the First Evil represented the old saying - "You are your worst enemy".. This was very true in both Seasons 6 and 7. And I suspect that this is a message that most people do not want to face. Is it any wonder that many BUFFY fans dismiss the First Evil as something not very threatening?

Easy: Spike coming back sans chip and soul, being The Big Bad, giving Buffy a run for her money and being dusted in one hell of a battle at the end.

Would've been brilliant. Possibly one of the best seasons ever. Re-villained Spike might've even given Angelus a run for his money

Uh-huh. I was just kidding..but ey..It would be pretty BA.

AND Yes I know that the Master's Bones were dusted...but he prolly could have came back..some how.

AND Having to do with the unpopularity of The First...I thought it was a real challenge for Buffy..For 6 years she knew how to deal with these big bads b/c she could physically hurt them, but The First really tripped her up by switching the sides and using mental tactics to mess with her. I liked the villain. I think unlike the other big bads, it was a symbolic and was more of an internal fight.
 
I think the main villains of season 7 were very good. The first and Caleb both made for some particularly scary episodes. The Uber Vamps were a bit dissapointing as they didn't speak or anything, they didn't have emotions they just fought, it turned the fight with them into a bit of a hollow purely physical battle.

Another thing that may have been interesting to see other than Spike going bad, as I found the soul gaining story for him quite interesting and quite a natural progression for his character, would have been for an evil character related to Giles and his past to show up as that would have allowed for Giles to do alot more in Season 7 other than just train up the potentials.
 
I would have loved to have had The First for the S7 villain. They gave us a great concept, but never really followed through. If there hadn't been so many potentials taking up all the time we could have had some REALLY interesting interactions between The First and the Scoobies. I would have loved a season long Yoko Factor, with everyone still reeling from season 6 and being psychologically toyed with by a much cleverer version of The First. It wouldn't even have to be clear that it's the big bad from the start: Caleb (who I loved) and his minions could provide plenty monster of the week action. I just wish they'd trusted the viewer a bit more and made things like the dead Giles thing more than a joke. I mean, Conversations with Dead People is such a great episode. I'd have loved it to have had the space to breathe and be a bit more subtle with what it did.
 
If I were going to replace the First Evil in Season 7, I would have had Caleb, himself, be the one, and, as a surprise somewhere about halfway through the season, or maybe just for a four episode for the final, Robin Wood would have been revealed as his sleeper agent. (I read somewhere that it wasn't decided at the beginning of the yea r whether or not Wood would be a hero or a villain, so it COULD have gone that way)

Alternately, Riley could have returned after being turned by one of his vampire prostitutes, with Sam, leading a squad of former Initiative commandos, all vampires as well. It would be the first time that Buffy and her people had ever faced someone with actual military training and access to modern weapons.

Either way, no Potentials, and most definitely no jail bait girlfriend for Willow. Just Buffy, Spike, and Faith, teamed up, kicking vampire/Initiative ass.
 
These are some good ideas, Lindsey Macdonald and White Avenger. It would be good to have some of these storylines to look forward to in the second half of season 7. I can make do with it for what it is, a scattering of good episodes such as storyteller, chosen and the other later ones when Caleb comes into it more. But I think it would have been good to see the first concept explored in more detail than they did so briefly in Conversations with Dead People. As was suggested they could have took the suspiscions of Giles being the first more seriously, rather than making a comic episode about it. It would have given a more scary atomosphere to the middle of the season that could have built up to the finale, rather than the atomosphere of training up potentials to fight a war against uber-vamps.

A season long yoko-factor would have been difficult to pull off I think because it would be difficult to maintain that level of tension without the characters either fighting or completely separating from each other. Definitely the potentials took up too much of the later part of the season. They could have still had the storyline without devoting so much of the show to them. The Kennedy/Willow story was annoying and the potential with the strong, clearly fake English accent was annoying aswell. They got way too much air time for what they offered to the show.

Our Buffy takes Evil Buffy in to help her adjust to life in this reality long enough for them to figure out a way to get her back to her reality. But then Buffy decides she wants to stay in this reality and take Buffy's life for herself. Maybe a romantic triangle forms between Buffy, Spike, and Evil Buffy.

Hmm, I like the idea of Buffy battling the "ultimate evil," but they really could of pumped it up more. Try to bring the show full circle more. They tried to do that with the First appearing as all the Big Bads that one time, but they could have done so much more. There's a thread for Conversations with Dead People and I posted that I think the episode would have been even more poignant if it had been Xander talking to Jesse, Willow to Tara, Giles to Jenny, and Buffy maybe to Angel or Joyce. They had such a cool power with the First, I wish they had utilized it more, tormenting the Scoobies as past friends who have died.

Also, as much as I love good Giles, maybe something with him dead and the First posing as him or him some how coming under the thrall of the First and taking the place as Caleb (not necessarily as a preacher, but as the First's right hand). That would have been cool.
