A different elk?

All that talk about yummy cow in the previous thread made me remember the burger joint down the road; they are famous for their elk burgers. Has anyone had elk before? What does it taste like.. and no, dont say chicken..

I've had buffalo. It's a bit saltier than hamburger, but otherwise not much different. I'd guess that elk tastes gamier.

Lol it does not taste like chicken. I have elk quite often, more often when I was a kid and my grandpa would hunt, it taste like... yeah like game pretty much. Hard to describe but it's nothing short of delicious in my book. Game is my favorite 🙂

But it gets dry easily if you don't cook it right.

Fudrucker's has exotic burgers at various times. I've has buffalo, elk, and ostrich, none of which taste anything like chicken. The meat is a bit dryer, probably because of a lower fat content, but I'm not really sure, and generally, to me, at least, has a stronger "meaty" taste, if that makes any sense, possibly, at a guess, because of a lower fat content.

I had it quite often as a kid since my granddad was a hunter. It was ok but I always enjoyed the sauce that went with it much more. 😉 Maybe I'd feel differenty if I ate it now but I can't even remember when I ate it last. Not that I would mind doing so it just hasn't happened.

I was about to say that I've eaten elk often, even last week, but I stand corrected. I've never had elk (Cervus canadensis). What I've eaten is moose (Alces alces). In general, though, animals of the deer family often have little fat marbled into the muscles (life's hard, not much fat gets accumulated), so the meat can easily seem "drier" than what we're used to when eating farm raised animals.

In that case I've been eaten moose too. On the other hand it seems that moose can be called Eurasian elk in Europe and then we're back to elk... I'll let others do the math about what I've been eating. I simply say älg. 😉

Um...no. I've had deer, rabbit, quail...never Elk. I tend to steer clear of the red meats (aside from the occasional beef enchilada). Wait..err, is Elk considered red meat? Lol.

I was surprised with pigeon.. it is supposed to be similar to quail but I have never had quail either.
