Assuming that Season 7 had not been the last televised season, that Sunnydale had remained intact, and that both Buffy and Spike had both survived the final battle with the First Evil's minions, what do you think that their relationship would have been like in Season 8?
 
A televised Buffy season 8 would have run concurrently with Angel season 5. If that had happened, I have a feeling that Joss would have left Spike dead, rather than moved him over to Angel. Or, he might have moved him to Angel and had an awkward reunion with Buffy in the latter part of the season.

Either way, I don't think their romantic relationship would have continued, at least not in that season.
