I tend not to trust what Peta says. But when you're using animals on movies there is always gonna be pressure to get the shot. There is still animal injuries and death in the production of movies, it's just swept under the rug because money. You can still receive the disclaimer that 'no animals were harmed' for your movie so long as they weren't harmed when cameras were shooting.
 
It's not a movie I would have seen anyways but I certainly wouldn't see it now.

Watching the video that was released was sad and really makes you think about what they put animals though. The dog was clearly scared and didn't want to go into the water. They should have had a few different dogs that they could switch out if one wasn't able to do it. Just throwing the dog in and assuming he'll just do what they want isn't a great plan.

And I agree with bluebird on PETA. They sensationalize everything. This was widely reported though, so it's not like PETA is the only one up in arms over it.

Here's an article that says a third party investigation found that while the handlers should have been more gentle and recognized the dogs distress sooner that it wasn't as bad as the video looked and that no animals were actually hurt.

The video looked really bad yeah but I feel like if they actually cared about the dogs wellbeing they would have taken the footage forward when the event actually happened (over a year a go) rather than just before the movie comes out.. And it has also been said that the dog wasn't in danger and the video was made in a way that makes it seem worse than it is. But I honestly don't know who to trust :/

I don't know that it's not bad. I mean, sure it probably wasn't abuse and they weren't going to stand by and let the dog die....but they clearly were more concerned about getting the perfect shot than the animals.

I suppose it makes one think more about the rule and regulations involving filming with animals than the incident itself.
 
Yeah, PETA find the most distressing footage possible to push their agenda. I wont even watch it knowing it will be distressing. A few minutes of panic is no different to a lost toddler having a cry, in the large scheme of things.

PETA and similar are against ALL human and animal connections, even therapy animals. We could learn from this rather than ban it. (Which is their goal)
