A few thoughts on Season 4

OK, so I watched season 4 for the first time a long time ago, and since then ive had a few rewatches of the show, but a few things just kind of sunk into me, and I'll list theme here:
1- Where the Wild Things Are. I know that I made a thread not to long ago specifically about how I like this episode, but I'll just re-bring it up because it fits in with this thread. All I have to say about it is that I noticed a lot of people don't like it, but I actually really like it, and as someone ponted out in an earlier thread, I think it highlights just how out of touch Buffy was from the other Scoobies as a result of Riley.

2- Beer Bad. OK, I'll admit that its not the best episode ever, but I don't really have any issues with it. I also don't really like all the Parker moping present in this episode, but I found the episode overall entertaining, and not so bad.

3- Superstar. Again, I noticed this episode has a lot of people out there who adamantly express their distaste, for it, but honestly I love this episode.

4- Season 4 as a whole. I know that a lot of people don't like this season so much, and personally its my 5th favorite season, but I really liek this season, and I think its very entertaining, humorous, and overall a good season.

So, what I'm getting at is, do any of you feel the same way abotu season 4, or any of those 3 episodes I mentioned? and if you don't like them, feel free to say why you don't like them. Also one last note, I did not like season 4 that much after I watched the series for the first time, neither did I liek those 3 episodes, but by now I've come round to liking them.

My reason for not liking it is because it is so out character for Buffy as a character and as a show. The tone of it would fit in well with seasons 6 or 7, but at this point it was a little too doom and gloom for me. It did achieve its prupose though, so I am not going to crucify the writers for it.

Not much I can say here. Not a fan. The writing is usually a lot more subtle than this, but it felt like being smashed over the head with a morality hammer.

3- Superstar. Again, I noticed this episode has a lot of people out there who adamantly express their distaste, for it, but honestly I love this episode.

I freaking love this episode. I know that Joss has his favourite actors that he uses more than he perhaps should, but when the result is this good, I can't fault it.

4- Season 4 as a whole. I know that a lot of people don't like this season so much, and personally its my 5th favorite season, but I really liek this season, and I think its very entertaining, humorous, and overall a good season.

It is my least favourite season, but I still really like it. Bear in mind that Buffy ranks second all-time on my list of favourite shows (I think Suits and Game of Thrones are better so far but they have only had 22 and 20 episodes respectively so can't really count them yet.) Most shows would be delighted if they had a season as good as this, that this is the weakest one of the series speaks only to how good the rest of the show was.

 

[Riley's Way]

Beer Bad was fun but I like my Buffy episodes to be smart & subtle, this one was just stupid & insulting & felt like an episode of Full House, it's definitely my least favorite episode of Buffy ..

Superstar was fun, entertaining & funny & fit perfectly the mood of season 4, which was a very fun & light season, quite different from the next 3 gloomy ones ..
