So, I felt it was prudent to put this out for all eyes to see as Willow My Love, as the Drogyn prefect, has unjustly been forced to take the brunt of this conversation and I felt bad that she had to face numerous voices alone, that's why I'm opening this up for both houses to see and I want you all to know that my reason behind this is not malice but I only wish to explain what has been going on.
There has been some hurt feelings about the banners Drogyn are sporting, joking at VH's expense, not all members have reacted negatively but some have. Personally I believe that this is based upon old grief as this is not the first time this has happened and it has left us as a house feeling rather targeted. Perhaps this was not your intent, but ultimately it is how it has come across.
The theme as I understand it was meant to be a parody of the other house themes, it's a funny idea but from my viewpoint I would like to say that ;
a) perhaps such a theme would have been more appropriate to save for a month when all houses had a noticeable theme so as not to target one house specifically
b) there's a fine line between funny and mean-spirited, unfortunately to many of us, your banners have come across as the latter. I realize this was probably not your intention, that it was a joke, but the spirit of it hasn't come off well and ultimately feels less like a parody and more like an attack on the house as I explained to Willow My Love
Now I know some of you will say "relax, take a joke why don't you?" and I can agree that though I was at first irked by the banners I quickly came around to simply finding them amusing and responded with a banner of my own.
That said, as this is not the first time it has happened it has caused some feelings to fester as many of us in VH cannot help but wonder why it's us? What we have done to deserve it, for again, when aimed only at one house and when it happens repeatedly it feels mean spirited rather than as a joke.
It may be unfair to hold new Drogynites responsible for what has happened in the past but I'm writing this to explain that these things are what are coloring our emotions, which not this one instance only, and why there's a feeling of being a little fed up with it.
House competition is encouraged and it's supposed to be in good fun. This time it has not come across as such and I thought you all should know what has been discussed about it and that in the future, I hope, that joking/teasing other dorms will be done on more even grounds.
I hope no one will be offended by this but if you are, so be it, this is the truth of it and I could not leave this unsaid, I'm sorry.
