Doug Jones, known for Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy (also the main gentlemen in Hush) has a new Kickstarter project to recreate Nosferatu shot-by-shot.

I really don't understand shot for shot remakes. I mean, why bother? The only reason to do a remake it to improve upon it...

It's not a remake. It's an overlay. It's an interesting bit of tech. Have you watched the video? I could see alot of good- and alot of bad coming from this technology.

Apparently you've never seen the Jeff Bridges interpretation of "True Grit." Then again, who could possibly think that they could improve on the Duke in THAT role?

I did see it. At least they changed the ending...SOMETHING to pretend like they weren't just ripping off what someone else did.

That's a slightlu different case since the second film is clearly based on the BOOK and not the John Wayne original (which I also prefer).
I don't really consider it a remake, more a reimagining of the story. Generally speaking I find the Coen Bros. to be overrated ('No Country For Old Men' anyone? It's not minimalist style, it's 'trying too hard to be deep' style) although I loved a lot of their earlier films ('Barton Fink' and 'Fargo', etc.)

I've heard that argument before, but I really can't see it. I always thought that both movies could make that same claim. Both followed the book quite well, the major differences being Mattie's age, the endings, and, of course, Wayne's fat Marshal as opposed to. Bridges' grubby one.

And, by the way, it's always a pleasure to meet another Wayne fan.
