A Texas lawmaker has proposed a bill that would fine a man $100 each time he masturbates.

The bill also imposes a 24-hour waiting period if a guy wants a colonoscopy or a vasectomy, or if he's in the market for some Viagra.

Rep. Jessica Farrar, a Democrat, knows her bill isn't going to get very far. But she proposed it last week to make a point and give male lawmakers a taste of their own medicine.
Farrar has long been an advocate of women's health in a state that has made it extremely difficult for women to get abortions. And the bill, by pointing out a sexist double standard, is meant to shine a light on the obstacles women deal with when it comes to their health care.
"Let's look at what Texas has done to women," Farrar told CNN. "What if men had to undergo the same intrusive procedures?"

Farrar's bill would penalize men for masturbation because such behavior is a failure to preserve the sanctity of life and "an act against an unborn child." Even the bill's name -- "A Man's Right to Know Act" -- is a jab at a pamphlet Texas doctors are required to give women seeking abortions.

That pamphlet, "A Woman's Right to Know," has long been criticized for being inaccurate, ideologically influenced by religion and designed to discourage women from getting abortions.

Abortion is not illegal. This bill doesn't make masturbation illegal. The supreme court has said it is the fundamental right of a woman to decide whether or not to terminate her pregnancy, for the purposes of decisional autonomy and physical consequences.

Texas has made it a sport to come up with as many ways to limit a woman's access to this right including 24 hour waiting periods, fines, and mandating that doctors hand out state-sponsored propaganda:

The masturbation bill may be theater but so is this bit of manipulative bullshit.

Abortion is not illegal. This bill doesn't make masturbation illegal. The supreme court has said it is the fundamental right of a woman to decide ....

Yet they (Texas) are still (as of Feb.) trying to pass laws which makes it a felony.
They are still trying to pass the law to require the aborted fetus a burial.
Texas and many other states are petitioning the Supreme Court to reverse Roe v Wade, and with the conservative benches being appointed it doesn't look like it's outside of the realm of possibility. They are already in the process of defunding Planned Parenthood nationwide. It's only a matter a time.

Simply stating Roe v Wade as a reason not to be upset or concerned about rights one may or may not lose is missing the point. All it takes is a bill - such as the masturbation one - to be proposed, it gain support and lives are changed as a result. Don't say it can't happen. Anything can happen.

Lots of nonsense bills get passed. Plenty of them are pure grandstanding. It's a marvel it works, like when Republicans promise jobs, but once elected want to waste time "affirming in God We Trust" though it did nothing, and yet their grandstanding got them points with those who voted them in for jobs anyway. (Though jobs were just the excuse, much like how so many who cared about Guantanamo Bay and Iraq while Bush was POTUS suddenly lost interest once Obama won, showing they didn't really give a damn about such issues after all. I wish they'd be honest how it's all about the party rather than the issues they only pretend to care about when they think it can help their party win.)

I'm starting to think it's all window dressing. Heck, I recall one of the times I was disappointed with President Obama. The BP oil spill in the gulf, and though there were many things that could've been brought up politically if one wanted to, instead the media (and American public) seemed to think Obama just didn't show enough anger. Obama finally capitulated saying something about finding an ass to kick. It's far from the worst thing President Obama did, but in my eyes it was the most pathetic...but his doing that appeased many of his followers and supporters.

Window dressing. Government is overrated. At least herein the USA where it has finally become more of a ridiculous reality show mixed with the usual partisan politics that short circuit otherwise rational brains.

This has nothing to do with Trump. Many states started the "Every Sperm Is Special" in 2010 when states began mandating a woman must undergo ultrasounds and take courses explaining feticide before the state grants them permission to have an abortion. This has been going on long before Trump.
