A New Angel

I would only watch to see how it came out with a different actor. Im not a big fan of recasting roles so my love for the Buffyverse would die down a little for the movie.

I wouldn´t mind, someone funnier and more handsome could replace him - there must be lots of suitable actors. It is the stories that count.

I would mind if Spike was replaced, though!

Can't say that I agree....

Sometimes I wish Joss Whedon would make a Buffy/Angel movie with Viggo Mortensen and Scarlet Johansen, just to show David, Sarah and the fan-mags who really calls the shots in the Buffy/Angelverse.

Don't get me wrong, I love both Viggo and Scarlet, but to be honest Sarah and David are the definitions of Buffy and Angel. I am disapointed that both shows are off the air, but it is only natural for both David and Sarah to want to grow as actors and try new things. Both are talented actors who deserve to advance in their careers, and that's hard to do when you have to fit a movie shooting into the three months the shows aren't filming. Besides how l can David play the forever-young Angel? I mean he's hot an all, but you can see the age difference from the first season of Buffy and the last season of Angel.

However, if the show continued in any way, I couldn't help but watch it, I mean I do love Joss and all.

Well, Joss has said several times that he meant for Buffy to be an iconic character, I'm sure this goes for Angel as well. And look in the past to see how many iconic characters have had several different actors play them: Tarzan, Superman, etc. And when you look at both Buffy and Angel, the characters can be replaced, it's the rest of the cast that I can't see being replaced.

yeah but in Tarzan,Superman all the cast is replaced just not the 2 main charecters.

And they are also comic books/stories that were adapted to the big screen, they arent a tvshow where you start off with a certain actor and end with that actor who basically help shape the charecter. Its like trying to replace Willow, its just wrong. Alyson helped create the willow we love, just look at the unaired pilot where they had a different actress playing Willow, she brought a whole different atmosphere to the charecter. Just like how Kristy Swanson(movie Buffy) played Buffy differently from Sarah.

Just because Buffy is iconic doesnt mean she can be replaced so easily, and the rest of the cast is iconic aswell.

I would like to see a new show take off from the end of season 5. It would not reveal to us right away what happened in the alley it would leave it a mystery but things would happen and we would get a flashback episode or several flashbacks where it showed what happened to Angel, Spike, Illyria, and the dying Gunn. My preference would have Gunn who has only minutes to live to use the very last second of his existence on the mortal coil to save Spike or Illyria and to have Angel go down fighting, just seconds after he sees Buffy who has brought hundreds of Slayers join the fray, he would die with a smile on his face and he would go to where all Champions go.

I would watch it depending on who they got to play Angel. It would also depend on if Spike(James) and Illyria(Amy) Where on the show still. Thats the only way I would watch it.

I would watch it. I think it maybe that David wants to spend some time with his son.
But if it's not then he is being very greedy. Most of his acting jobs on movies have bombed big time at the box office. He should time about that the next time he asks for more money.

He was luck to have that job.
Maybe they could find someone who could be 'Angel' as good or better than David.

I'm biased but Angel is my favorite character so seeing someone else in the role would be a huge disappointment

i truely do not know i mean Angels not really Angel with out david boreanaz he made angel what he is today. and i dont think that david boreanaz can be replaced no one could really ever be as good at playing angel as the one who basically shapped him and formed him but i might watch it a couple times to see how it is if it isn't anywhere near the same i wouldn't watch it but maybe if it was similar i might.

I think I would watch, just to see what Joss created, but seriously, I know I wouldn't enjoy it. DB is Angel, and is probably the reason that I started watching Angel to begin with. Without him, I don't think anything will be the same.

Well regardless of our opinions i seriously doubt that Joss would ever consider recasting the roles of either Buffy or Angel. It's just not something i think he would ever choose to do.

Personally i wouldn't want to see it either, i don't think people realise just how much of the two characters belong to SMG and DB. They really do own those two roles and it would only be when we saw somebody else attempt to play them that we realised it.

If you look back at old television series it's usually when roles start getting recast that things start falling apart because the integrity of the series starts to crumble. In my opinion it would be better if no new Buffy or Angel adventures were ever made than if they were but with new actors in the roles. Besides, the slayerverse is a big place, plenty of other characters who need more exploration so why not give them the spotlight now?

Not that I'd like to see them recast, but many movies, especially those about SuperHeroes have done quite well, even without the original actors who played them. It'd just have to be done further down the line.

(i.e. Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Catwoman, etc.)

Generally though when the characters in a movie are recast it makes very little difference as they usually are different versions of the story anyway. For example, the latest Superman movie is a different version of the story to the original Christopher Reeve movies, and different again to the TV series featuring Tom Welling's and Dean Cain's Superman versions, each having their own continuity, so there is no need to keep the same actors.

The only difference is the Batman movies where three different actors took the role within the same continuity (Keaton, Kilmer and Clooney) and we all know how terrible those movies became towards the end which is why the latest one, Batman Begins, will begin a whole new continuity for the Batman story on the bigscreen, leaving the old story behind.

i'm assuming we all want any Buffy or Angel movie to continue the story of the television series rather than tell a new version in which case i think we need to keep our fingers crossed that Sarah and David will be onboard.

Seriously I can't see what better projects David is working on. If all he's going to be remembered for is Angel, then why not capitalize on it?

Absolutely agreed! I understand how they want to try new roles and avoid being typecast but at the same time i see no reason to avoid the roles that made them so successful altogether.

David Duchovny made the mistake of trying to leave Mulder behind altogether and now he is more than ready to return to the role because he realises how important it was to his career. Hopefully Sarah and David will come to the same conclusion.

Except with the regular superhero movies, you just see that person on screen for 2 1/2 hours and thats about it, than its done until like 2 years pass.

But when you adapt a tv show to the big screen, a tv show that ran 7 years you cant just go up and recast the roles because the actors dont want to do it, since the fans are already tied to that person playing the charecter and that actor made the role suit them.

It may not matter if he's working on better projects, methinks. I mean, I know most of us are keen on Mr. Whedon, but it may be that for an actor of any prestige, even if it's only for one TV show, they want to do something different. Anything different, by an actor's standards, is good. Er, most anything.
And as it looks from the ol' IMDB, Boreanaz has steady work---albeit, B-level, "tabloidy"-type fare---but work nonetheless.
