from that paradime of truth and good journalism 😀 the National Enquirer:

Bite this! "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" producers are betting Sarah Micheele Gellar won't be back after next season, because of her big screen "Scooby-Doo" success-so they're hedging by hiring a bevy of sexy young monster mashers in a talent hunt for a Buffy clone who can keep the series undead!!

Hmmmm well I'm not too sure, what about you guys?

I don't know what to think. It could be the downfall of the series, or maybe an uprising of a new, refreshed Buffy series.

oo i think it could revive the series....anything to keep it going i supose....although i think it will be weird....i supose they could get sarah to work with the new buffy and have some kind of witchy induced image change in one ep?!!

No, it would be a major downfall. I could understand if they had a replacement for someone like Anya or Riley, but replacing Sarah is asking for too much. This show's never had any substitutes and now it's gonna be the main character!? They should seriously think about that before they decide to continue on with a 'potentially' bad season.

i think it will be a heated debate until joss has decided and then it will continue to be discussed until we get used to whatever his decision will be...but thinking of loosing btvs sadens me..🙁

'grr argh' as it says at the end of the show. No no no no no! If SMG leaves then BTVS should end, it is as simple as that. Obviously I am happy for a new slayer series to be devised, after all, 'Angel' is a magnificent spin off which shows that the central characters can be removed from a hit show and work well in a new format.

Another spin off would seem likely in order for certain stars who still have time on their contracts to run to remain employed... but i just hope they will be employed in a sister show, and not some hollow mockery of the show we all know and love.

I for one could never get used to another 'Buffy'... SMG epitomises the character. I can't stand to watch the film for that very reason. SMG is Buffy. By all means have another slayer... but don't fob us off with an artificial substitute that will never be as good as the real thing... I put sugar on my strawberries and not canderell... there is a reason for that!

hmmmmm.... I may stop ranting now and go and hide under a rock until the embarrassment passes some time next month.

I sincerely hope this is just some rumour someone cooked up. I mean, Buffy without Sarah? It just doesn't work. If that ever happense (which it hopefully won't), I'm resorting to a Buffy boycott. I know it sounds tragic, but I must do what I must.

NO, NO, AND NO. I was reading on Spoiler Slayer, a site which I consider pretty reliable, and according to them, the ME casting call is for "Slayers-in-training", meaning that there is a possibility that the Big-Bad might be someone who is hunting down Slayers-in-waiting, and is drawn to Sunnydale. Spoiler Slayer has gone out on a limb far enough to say this might be THE story arc for the season. If that is the case, then it would certainly lend credit to the constantly thrown around rumor that Dawn is a Slayer-in-waiting.

Don't hide under a rock, because I absolutely agree with you the most. I would actually consider not watching BtVS if they dare to do that. Another slayer? - That's okay, but replacing somebody who has been there for seven years with some cheap-a** newcomer?! No Way! Not happening! I'd rather have Dawn become the new slayer. So I'm either rooting for a spinoff, a new slayer, or Dawn, the Vampire Slayer.

Dawn the Vampire Slayer doesn't have quite the same ring to it though does it?

One thing i hate is when they change an actor in a series, it's never the same because you get used to seeing the original there. I hope they don't go down this road at all, i think it'd be better to just end the series on a high.

Obviously we know they won't do that because if the series is popular and getting good ratings then its making money and as long as the studio sees a way of making money they'll run the series (into the ground if necessary). Sad really 🙁

Well, Dawn would certainly be better then throwing some completely new person in the mix. Plus they can easily explain why Dawn is a Slayer, given her very unique background. Given they haven't explained very much about her, they can pretty much do whatever they want with her.

this is really upsettingn news we`ve all gotten very attatched to Sarah being Buffy she is an amazing actress i mean she is OUR slayer they`re has never been anyone else for us i mean faiths a slayer but its not the same , oh i hope this dosnt ruin the show 🙁 🙁

I am just going to ignore this rumor and pretend I never heard it in the first place. Joss knows what he is doing and he is probably more intelligent than replacing the main character. He knows fans would hate this and the show would lose a lot of viewers. I seriously love Buffy to death but I hope it ends in Season 8. It can't keep gonig on and I want it to end on a high note. I wouldn't midn if it ended in Season 7 either, it doesn't look like that will happen though. With Emma leavin after this year though, we KNOW that Xander and her will not live happily ever after.

I do hope that when Buffy finishes, it finishes well, and not finish as some half baked shadow of what it previously was.

I also hope that Joss doesn't decide to kill off every single character in the finale, like the psychotic sadistic guy he is 😛

Now that would be an interesting way to end the show? Tha good guys loosing 🙂 Haven't seen anyother show do that since Blake's 7 finished over here (i know lots of you may never have heard of that show, but at the time it was good)

I would love a big showdown at the end with all my faves back like Oz and Faith.

And I really hope that is a lie because if Sarah leaves then the show will just become like a soap when they can actresses all the time.

THEY ARE NOT INTERVIEWING FOR A NEW SLAYER!!! What I believe ME is doing is putting out a call for girls not as Slayers, but more 'Slayers-in-waiting'. It is on Spoiler Slayer, a usaully pretty reliable source, that THE story arc of S7 might be something or someone who is hunting Slayers-in-Waiting, and for some reason is drawn to Sunnydale. And a story arc like that would lend a good deal of support to the rumor that Dawn might become a Slayer, meaning she could be the 'Slayer-in-Waiting' in Sunnydale. Who this enemy is is not known. Speculation would seem to point to either the Watcher's Council or someone who knows how to ID a 'Slayer-in-Waiting'. Anyway, I don't know that this is true or not, but on the surface it would make sense.

"I think that it's very likely there will be [a season eight]," Noxon said in an interview. "I'm not sure if Sarah [Michelle Gellar] will come back or not, but it's really up to UPN and 20th Century Fox if the franchise continues. It would be very hard to continue the show without her, but they might try."

Although Marti said that they might try without Sarah, I don't think it would work out. The show is too centred around her and getting any other slayer in there (even Dawn) would be fatal to the show. I think they should go out with a bang, not trying to grab every string possible in order to stay afloat. If Sarah leaves, they should just congratulate themselves on what a great show they made and call it quits.

Totally disagree. I admit they would have a harder time without her, but a lot of people tune in to see someone other SMG(myself included)and it seems to me that too many people act as if the success of the show is due to Sarah and Sarah alone.
