If we were going to move Buffy on in the comics from all her past relationships and design a new guy for her to become involved with, what qualities would be good to include to make him the perfect person for Buffy? What does she need in a guy?
Tick all those boxes and you'd have somebody we havn't seen before. Doesn't need to be boringly normal, just different
A few things:
- they should be alive. They could be supernaturally inclined I guess (what about a male man-witch huh? A...warlock? Some kind of magic user? That could be something) or just on the normal-ish side. But yeah, a human.
- Maybe they should get to know Buffy instead of 'Buffy the Slayer'. This isn't really a requirement given that the supernatural has been 'outed' for some years now.
- They should, in no way, have a body count in their past. Nor should they cause deaths in the process of their relationship with Buffy. For me, this kinda takes the shine of a couple, y'know? And again, its been done to death.
- Most importantly the guy shouldn't instantly be drawn to Buffy because she's so fascinating/beautiful/mysterious or whatever and then start always hanging around her. They shoud think she's okay, cute and smart and funny but not that spectacular. Maybe Buffy would have to try at a new relationship for a change. That would be swell. That hasn't happened since...Parker maybe? Even Scott Hope whiffed of desparation in his pursuit.
- It shouldn't really be the focus of the main plot that season. Buffy should have something else going on in her life other than her boyfriend.
Tick all those boxes and you'd have somebody we havn't seen before. Doesn't need to be boringly normal, just different from what's come before. Fresh.
So what you are saying is she needs the male equivalent of Riley's Sam.Riley-ish but less insecure. Someone who can be her equal. Maybe has a past in magic or demon slaying himself.
I.e. capable, stable and mature. Adult Graham? Or someone like that.
Basically a human she can age with. I mean when she was younger it was like she was living on borrowed time, Slayer's die young and all, so it didn't really matter if she dated immortals. But if she's going to be around for a while I think it's healthier for her to settle with someone who can share her life with her like a regular Joe. Or y'know a semi-regular Joe, regular in the way that Buffy is regular. 🙂
So what you are saying is she needs the male equivalent of Riley's Sam.
That's because you never saw behind the closed door. They were trying to remain professional whilst on duty.Maybe, less annoying though. Also they seemed like they were too... I don't know, more "buddy-buddy, I married you because you were around" and not genuinely, I married you because I would have wanted to, even if we had different jobs.
