When did his attitude towards Angelus change? I mean at first he was fully on board with Angelus being back. Than by the end of the season he ally's with the Slayer to help save the world.

When did his feelings change?

So the change happened almost right away? Poor Spike. Would he be on board with Angelus getting his soul back? To get Dru back?

From "Passion" okay thanks, I have it where he'll keep a secret from Angelus just so The Scoobies can put his soul back. Does that work?

Yeah Passion "I prefer the Buffy-whipped Angelus"

Angelus ALWAYS looked down on Spike, right from the moment Spike was sired. Spike has always seen Angelus as competition, especially for Dru's affections.

Angelus has been gone for over almost a century, as has Darla, and, whether he likes it or not, Spike has missed them. He's missed having someone to act as the adult while he skips around as the child. Angelus being back makes Spike thinks that he can go back to just having fun rather than the one in charge.

But, without Darla around to take Angelus' focus, Angelus' attention fell completely on Dru and, with Spike being in the wheelchair, he didn't have the option of fighting back, of proving himself to Dru because he was physically weak.

I don't know, though, that he'd be all that in favor of shoving Angel's soul back in him. Not at that point in S2, anyway. He just wants Angelus out of the way - preferably dead, I think.

He'd have preferred dead, certainly. But I can't help but think that if Buffy had said the deal was that Spike stall the ritual with Acathla long enough for Willow to give Angel his soul back, and then he'd be allowed to take Dru and leave town, he'd definitely have taken that deal (after a few minutes of arguing, of course). That would have worked out better for him too, I think, because it'd have been easier for him to keep Dru around, imo.

Given the choice, Dru obsessed Angelus or Buffy obsessed Angel, Spike would choose the the Buffy version.

Yeah that makes sense. I have a Story where Dru knows the Scoobies are going to put Angel's soul back, and Spike is ever so willing to keep Angelus in the dark as long as possible. Would Spike sacrifice himself for her?

Without the soul, Angelus at that point in S2 was still Buffy obsessed. Everything he did was to torture and hurt Buffy, she was his focus and his drive, to cause her as much pain as possible.

He just had Dru there to take care of his, ahem, needs, at that's what Spike to offence to, that and the fact that he never took Spike seriously. But I don't think that Spike is all that into torturing people or causing them as much pain as possible. That was always Dru and Angelus' forte. Spike always went for the quick kill, with every victim we saw him with.

Returning Angel's soul is a form of torture inflicted upon Angelus, and I still think that Spike would rather go for the quick kill than risk the possibility of having Angelus reappear at some point in the future.

Of course, if this is a fanfic you're writing, then this is your interpretation of the characters and nothing I, or anyone else, says should make you change your story.

Spike did seem to enjoy taunting Nikki Wood quite a bit. Perhaps that was the exception that proves the rule though, as it seemed to be very personal to both of them.
Your right, Spike isn't sadistic or whimsical with the pain he causes. If Angel gets his soul back, then Spike can kill him in a fight, which could be quick.

It is a fanfic, Giles has found a way to bring Jenny back, and Dru is talking about it and Spike understands and Angelus doesn't.

I don't think Spike wants Angelus (or Angel for that matter) dead, he just wants his girl back and the world to go on so that he can go back to doing his own thing.

I think one of the big reason he joined with Buffy was so that the world wouldn't end, because what good would that do to him. So I'd say the more the season went on, the more distant he became from Angel, there was no clean cut separation as to when he flipped sides.

Thanks for the confirmation, Blaze, That's what I was thinking. My question really is would Spike already feel the way he does in Becoming, in Passion?

I think it was well on its way, but not all the way there

Merrick agrees: Spike did seem to enjoy taunting Nikki Wood quite a bit. Perhaps that was the exception that proves the rule though, as it seemed to be very personal to both of them.

Torturing isn't the same thing as taunting, though.

What Spike was doing with Nikki was baiting her, ramping up his bloodlust so that he would be pumped when he went for the kill. That's not torture.

What Angelus did with Drusilla -THAT was torture.

A lot of the time, Spike seems to get someone else to do the torture part of it, and both times we see that, it's Angel who's being tortured. First he lets Dru do the torturing and then he hires Marcus.

The one time we're certain that Spike tortured someone was when he had a soul and he needed information to help someone he cared about. A wildly different situation.

Okay, so what your saying is Spike likes the fight, torture really isn't that fun. Spike likes to win after a good brawl. So Spike would be against Angel getting his soul back, it's just a handicap. Spike wants to beat Angelus in a straight up fight.

Yes, that is exactly how I see Spike - or at the very least, pre-soul Spike.

Spike ALWAYS wants to prove he's better than Angelus, he wants to be the best at everything, be the better fighter, the better vampire, the better lover. Beating Angelus' in a straight up fight would give him a huge ego boost and that's what he wants. A fight to the death where Angelus ends up dust and he stands victorious.

But, at that point in Spike's life, Dru came first above all things in his life. She was the most important thing to him and saving her was more important that beating Angelus.

Dru, it all comes back to Dru, would Spike help put Angel's soul back, around the time of "Passion" to pull Angelus away from Dru?

Around that time Spike would have done anything for Dru.

I think it was Bob Dylan who sang - The Times They Are a'Changin.😀

Thank You, Merrick, that is what I was after.

Now about Angelus. Let's assume he continued to kill off those around Buffy, who would he target next? And take Giles out of the picture, he died trying to take vengeance for Jenny.

Spike being a real vampire's vampire, rotten to the core, and proud of it, he was more than willing to overlook Angel's accursed soul and welcome him back into the fold and give him a second chance to be the monster he was killed to be. He was willing to see the worst in everyone, even Angel. Sadly, Angel just couldn't "measure down" to Spike's expectations.

Seriously, though, I think that it had been so long since they had been together, Spike just plain forgot how much he hated Angelicus until he had to contend with him again.
