I've heard many rumors and seen many articles claiming that Sarah is in fact, yes a REPUBLICAN.

Though I can offer no credible sources, there seems to be a good consensus that does believe so and I can find no links saying that she is not a Republican.

Also Emma Caulfield has been linked as a Republican who has voiced her party endorsement.
 
And your point is...? Disagreeing with my politics does not necessarily make someone a bad person (though I am prepared to make an exception to that for Bush/Cheney 😛) especially if they're an actor I admire - or indeed a hot babe 🙂 Down Pointy - get in your politically incorrect box - bad Pointy! 😉
 
Who gives a crap whether or not they're Republican. Frankly I find it reassuring that they would have the courage of their convictions rather than saying they're Democratic just to go along with everyone else in Hollywood.

I actually agree, that it is somewhat courageous.. (Altough I kind of wish she would be a Democrat just cause I wish everyone would be, but that's got little to do with this..)
 
Adam Baldwin (Hamilton, Angel; Jayne, Firefly) and David Greenwalt (Producer/Co-creator, Angel) are also Republicans. I am quite happy that they are. Being as I myself am a Republican.

Thats exactly why I posted it.

Because shes not like every other actor whose on the Democratic train. Or going along with it just to gain the Hollywood support *cough*BEN AFFLECK.
 
I read the same thing various places, and at the risk of being flamed, I liked hearing that. I am a Republican too 🙂
 
Honestly, who cares? I'm a Democrat and some of my favorite actors and actresses are Republicans. What is the big deal? Is it so important that SMG or Emma Caufield is a Republican or Democrat?

To some people, *cough*Comma*cough*, it matters. It's just added information in learning about the actress(es) behind the characters we love.

I can't believe I wrote that. Just so you all know, I take it back, lol.

And btw, I don't think it matters, at all, but I can see how it matters if you really like the actress. If you look up to or admire someone, it can definitely be nice to know if you have things in common with them (politically and/or in other ways).

I do think it's really important... for exactly the reason eponinethen just stated.

It has to do with that rolemodel-thing, with looking up to a person and admiring them. To me a person's outlook on life and thus also their political prefference influences this. While I can admire Sarah's talent as an actress, I won't admire her as a person. The exact opposite can happen too. Sometimes even the two could influence each other. Lars von Trier's morals I find so disturbing that I refuse to watch his movies. (He killed a donkey for a new movie; the guy's a real sick **** if you ask me.) Similarly, political opinion influences my regard of people.

Why does it matter? Honestly? Who cares about the political affiliation of a certain actor or actress, as long as he or she has talent?

Role models? Are you serious? They're actors and actresses. Their job is to entertain. Why do people go through such trouble to turning them into role models? I'm sorry, but it's so stupid.
 
Hm, I don't know that much about Lars von Trier as a person, but I would never stop watching his movies. I love the movies the make, and even though I'd probably never be a fan of him as a person, I am a fan of his movies. (But I do see your point Allycat, and I know it could bother me.. if the person's values where extremely different from mine.. it's possible I would feel the same way.)

And honestly, the reasons for why it matters to some people that Sarah is an active republican were clearly stated after your first questioning of the issue. It would appear to me that you didn't read eponinethen, allycat and my responses thorougly.

But why is that stupid really? Sure they're just human beings like the rest of us but it can be nice to have people to admire. What's wrong with that..? They don't know better than we do, but they live a different life. We can't look at "normal" people the way we look at celebrities (obviously), it might be weird in ways, knowing lots of things about them while they don't know anything about you, but I don't see what's stupid or wrong about wanting to feel like you've got something in common with your favourite actor.
(Plus, whether we like it or not, celebrities are role models to lots of kids, which is also a reason why I can feel glad that some celebrities who people look up to share my values.)

I'm not mocking you. I'm stating my opinion. I don't see how an actor or actress' political belief is important, as long as you admire the talent.

That's the way to put it. I didn't think you were mocking me specifically, just someone who may feel that way. Thanks for rephrasing..
The original purpose of this thread was to show how some celebrities go against the norm and even risk their careers on politics.

For Democrats in Hollywood, declaring their political status is nothing. Almost everyone is Hollywood is a Democrat. Apparently, it's the "it" thing. Look at Ben Affleck and countless other stars.

But when a celebrity announces that they're Republican, that's a different matter. Republicans aren't looked at very nicely in this sweeping Democratic-majority.

Maybe we shouldn't admire or hate them because of their political affiliation, but we can admire those who have the guts to go against popular beliefs.
