Sorry to intrude in what some might consider enemy territory, but since I have come to know so many of you so well through our Adopt-A-Bangel program (don't worry, folks, everything is still 100% confidential, as promised. You choose your own time to come out) I was just wondering if I could ask a question that has intrigued me ever since out two groups have been formed.

I can understand the "Back Steps" title, since so many of Buffy and Spike's closest moments were spent there, but why "Close Your Eyes?" In all seriousness, and no sarcasm whatsoever, I can agree that that is one of the most powerful Buffy/Angel scenes in the entire series, but there's just nothing happy about it. Why not a more happy Bangel memory to define your group?

Well, I'm not a bangel, but... Bangel wasn't exactly about happiness. 😉 It was about love and loss. The innocence of first love, and how quickly that innocence can be taken away and transformed into bitter realism. Also: "Close your Eyes" is the Bangel theme, and it fits Bangel perfectly. 🙂

Bangel is forever love!
Not a bangel too, but I can definitely understand why the Bangel relationship is loved. I had no part in picking the name, but I would assume because it is also the name of the bangel love theme song? I also totally agree with WA about the innocence of first love. Buffy's love for Angel was so evident on her face when she had to make that choice. In that moment, you saw the entire theme behind Bangel.

*Outs myself*

Yes, WA, as you may already know.....

I AM A BANGELITE

That is all.

And I think WO hit the nail on the head. It's about love, loss, and that sweet sadness that makes Bangel so ooey gooey good.

Is "Close your eyes" a quote? If so, from what episode?

I can tell you're not a Bangel. Even I knew this one and I'm not a Bangel either. Blocked it out, did you? lol

It's from Becoming Parts 1 and 2. Darla says it to Liam before turning him. Then, it's echoed by Buffy before she kills him and sends him to Hell.
It's the song, it's all the song.

I had this theory awhile back that you can actually track the entire B/A relationship (as seen on TV) through the song.

It might work better whilst listening to the song but this is how I see it...

It starts off tentatively and almost unsure of itself (much like their relationship) and then builds steadier and steadier to something assertive and sure, then the piano brings in a moment of tenderness (Surprise) that swells to this huge crescendo that is as beautiful as it is devasting (Her shoving the sword through his chest), then it steadies itself again, almost echoing some of the earlier notes but this time melancholy (Season 3 Bangel) and then finishes it off with those final solitary notes, almost like an elipsis, like more is to come. (Like the promises they made in Chosen "Sometimes I do look that far ahead...")

You are such the little Anya...

Not exactly what I expect you to call me, but I'll take it.

Scobro agrees: expect or expected? big difference!
white avenger agrees: I share something with Angel, now. We were both once tiny puppet people.

I'm totally confused by both of these responses!

It's always fun to keep the Bangels confused and off balance.

blind or blonde? if she cant see that Angel will betray Buffy she clearly IS blind as well as blonde.

take my word, Miss K will NEVER be bland.
Salty or spicy? too much sodium is not good for you; I prefer a bit of the bland versus dead sea fries.

EDIT: I think she is really confused now and the thread has gone way OT.. its 9 am, I am sick, head swimming in sickly goodness and at work, so.. i have an excuse

I'll give her a hint. Maybe it'll help.

Not blind, not blond, never bland, but she does sometimes try to blend, and we have VIDEO proof of that. Adopt-A-Bangel: The only path to the true ship. Carpe Spuffy!

(And now I'm gonna beat a hasty retreat before the rocks begin to fly!)

But thanks, folks, for answering my question, and I do hope that you realize that this was all just for fun, no malice involved. Your hospitality is greatly appreciated.

Just a quick karma so i can karma someone else. Don't think I condone any of this! :p
Please, by all means, continue this riveting conversation. I just LOVE IT when people talk about me as if I can't see any of it. It is the FUNNEST!

Were not talking ABOUT you.. not like that.

If you couldn't see it, it wouldn't be funny, for you, me, or anybody else. Besides, you know how much fun we have when we dance. It keeps your adrenalin flowing, stirs your imagination, and strengthens your resolve.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

(And you give me Karma just so you can give the REAL points to somebody else? I feel so USED! Now I know how Spike felt watching Buffy and Angel, with their "no tongues."
