A Spike return teaser!

Intriguing! I don't see much proof here, though, except Marsters's hopes. "What can I say, there is interest in having me back." That could just mean that fans are discussing it. I personally would like cameos of a number of the original show's stars, but the vampire actors' aging would obviously take some explanation. Ironically, James seemed very against that idea some years ago, scorning the need to say that Spike had met some aging demon or the like. I guess now he's changed his mind!

Admittedly, since then he has done Slayers.

Yes, that's exactly how I interpret it too. Fans at conventions keep asking him and probably cheering him on when talking about the reboot.

As much as I love him - pulling it off now physically isn't possible. Are you going to just wipe away the basic vampire lore you established on your own show? He's 62 (I think?) and vampires don't age.

I really don't want some lame excuse in order to justify his appearance. And if you heard the Slayers series, his accent was off. That's not a knock on him - he hadn't done the accent in decades!

You would need to use the anti-aging effects that are now quite decent, but I imagine too much expense still for something like this. It wouldn't be the first time basic vampire lore has been erased because of Spike admittedly, but I think that would be a bad start to the series. However, even with the accent change in Slayers, which I can get past by assuming that Spike decided to affect another new accent, given that his existing accent wasn't William's and was a creation of his own, he could work much more easily as an audio cameo.

Exactly in regards to the de-ageing - that's why I didn't bring it up because I don't think the series is going to have the budget for something like that?

Then considering they might bring back Angel (my own theory is DB said he wasn't interested in a way to shut down people constantly asking him and to throw fans off if he does make a surprise appearance!) then their budget grows to de-age not one, but two vampires.

That's fair, I agree.

It's hard to judge with certain kinds of effects these days, as the costs can drop quite rapidly quite quickly. If that's paired with an increase in the available budget, then it becomes more feasible. I mean, non-professionals are doing AI these days which comes close. Which is really disturbing, when you think about it. But a successful S1 does increase the chance of de-aged vamps in S2.

Eh. His underlying logic is largely valid. But I assume most of the series actors will eventually appear in some capacity.

He's not gonna say no to that pay check

Perhaps his aged appearance could be explained another way as in ..... by him being brought back from the dead or wherever he was he now has a price to pay for that privilege where it takes it's toll by slowly draining his life force which causes the changes in his physical appearance....or something like that. It can definitely be easily explained away like that which would allow him to appear as he is without involving a lot of expensive computer graphic magic. And I'm sure the fans would be happy to except that just to have him back on the show.

I would love to see James..and David playing Spike & Angel again, even if they were turned into humans for whatever reason, I couldn't really care less if it means we get more of them embodying those characters again in the Buffyverse canon. I'd also love to see Eliza playing Faith but I doubt it'll happen. As long as we get Buffy & Willow in the "New Sunnydale" honestly, I will be happy... so I will be even more pleasantly surprised if we get more of our legacy characters like Giles, Oz, Wood, Drusilla...

As much as I'd love to see Spike appear in the reboot, or any vampire for that matter, I agree it would be difficult to explain how he has aged.

And it be would be lame if they had the reason for his aging a result of he had been turned human.

Since the shanshu was a canon thing and both of them have repeatedly saved the world i would vote for some kind of reward - preferably one that leaves them more than human but not vampire...i think taking away their superpowers (and making them totally human and weak) would be more curse than blessing.

On the other hand them becoming more human; like the slayer herself - with power but subject to aging - this would be a decent compromise.

Maybe they age slower but they wont live forever. I dont think this is a horrible thing. For most of us, outliving everyone we love is more curse than blessing anyway.

I think the de-aging thing is good for a cameo but not for a long term or even recurring role. What if the series lasts years? If they do it right; it could. Who thought a 3 year canceled series (ST:TOS) could turn into a 60 year multi series franchise after years off the air?

even if rhe deaging looks good; older actors cant fly through the air or do lotsa risky moves - not even with stunt doubles. So accept the aging and figure out why. Show your work!

With the idea of a voice cameo, I have this image in my head now of Spike, in a dimly-lit crypt, too dark to see him properly, sitting in front of a wall of computer monitors, acting as mission control for Slayers in the field, communicating as the Voice on the Phone or through emails and text messages.

This could work.
We have two vampires with souls and that could be used to explain the aging - the souls allow the vampires to age. That way, both Spike and Angel could resume where they left off. It also means that no other vampires would age.

As long as we don't get a repeat of Henry Cavill in Justice League (#moustachegate!).

Except Angel was unaging for 100 years with a soul.
I thought maybe a diet of animal blood would explain aging but i think the same problem.

Only a reward makes sense.

A soul makes them age huh? In that case as the person they was is so ancient they'd be dead, new actors please.
Any stuffed toys for Angel to give folk the heeby geebies, stuffed toys moving about scaring the crap outa folk, might even call him
Angelus again.
What stuffed toy would you suggest for Angelus?
What stuffed toy would you suggest for Spike? That'd really be a Spikey teaser.

So that's Chucky for both of them? Which one would be Elmo?

I had Miss Edith kill Chucky.
Star Trek has pretty much ignored Data's aging at this point. I think we should do the same with Spike, and appreciate the acting. I mean, neither one is going to be snogging teenagers.

If a reason is needed, Major Vampires may appear the age that they are expected to appear, as part of their glamour. Like the Salt Vampire on Star Trek. Think about it, don't you think the Master would need to not look like a bat when out and about?

Not sure they ignored Data’s aging, it’s more as the actor has gotten older that gold face paint doesn’t hide it so well.
