A Spike return teaser!

You would need to use the anti-aging effects that are now quite decent, but I imagine too much expense still for something like this.
I would agree except for two things, the first being that this is an established franchise and will probably have a pretty decent special effects budget compared to a completely original series, and the second being that they would probably not bring Spike back as a major character. They may be willing to deal with the cost of getting a short guest appearance once or twice.

It's hard to judge with certain kinds of effects these days, as the costs can drop quite rapidly quite quickly.
This is also a really important point. Digital effects are pretty cheap these days; if they stick with prosthetics for a lot of the demons, de-aging vampire actors could actually possibly end up being one of the cheaper effects overall.

But a successful S1 does increase the chance of de-aged vamps in S2.
I just hope they don't try and put Spike or Angel into recurring roles. Having one or both of them show up would be okay, but having them around a lot would completely distract from the new cast.

I think the de-aging thing is good for a cameo but not for a long term or even recurring role. What if the series lasts years? If they do it right; it could. Who thought a 3 year canceled series (ST:TOS) could turn into a 60 year multi series franchise after years off the air?
A lot of digital effects like this have a bit of an uncanny valley look to them, which I'm hoping will prevent the team from trying to keep Spike and/or Angel around for a significant amount of time. I don't particularly want to have to look at the computer generated face of James Marsters from twenty years ago superimposed onto his current head. I'd much rather let new actors have a turn at playing cool vampire characters.

Both of these are connected really. How much does deaging cost? I have no idea, but it will be getting cheaper. So far, I think I've only seen it in films, which means big budget, but older films (Ms Marvel for instance) which means it will be cheaper now. Also, how big a bet is Disney willing to take? They had some big budget epic failures of TV series with their big franchises - Star Wars and Marvel - and Buffy doesn't even close to them in size. So, it all really boils down to what it would cost when it's done.

Yes. And for a success they need new fans, not merely existing ones. If it all revolves around the original cast, it all revolves around the original feelings, and the new cast are merely the backdropping for old stories to play out again.

If they did show up I can't seem them hanging around for more than a 1 episode cameo. Especially David given he's got another show anyway

Sadly I think that's what this will end being. Just a member berries show known for nostalgia bait and nothing else. I just don't think Zhao has the talent for anything more.

I'll have no problem if I'm proved wrong and will admit it but I don't think I will be and the show will be reliant on the next cameo to generate appeal

Checking on IMDb, that looks to have ended in 2024 and there aren't any upcoming projects listed.

Oh, does he have a replacement for SEAL Team now?

The last thing I read/heard that after SEAL Team ended, he was already working on/pitching another idea for his next project.

Ah, here's something, it's from 2024:

I thought I had heard he had something planned, but IMDb currently has no upcoming projects listed for him. So, very early days still maybe. Although IMDb Pro might have more information, but "pro" tends to mean "give us money" though there is a free trial.

Haha, you're right about that! I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a new project from DB sometime this year, or early 2027.
