A Theory on why another Slayer wasn't activated

Hi all

After watching the Gift last night I just had a thought on why there wasn't another Slayer after Buffy's death.

Buffy's death was mystical, her previous death had been natural (drowning), as well as Kendra's.

So I'm guessing mystical deaths don't activate new Slayers.

What do you think?

The Slayer line goes through Faith. That's why another Slayer wasn't activated.

That's right....I forgot about Faith. Well, that debunks my theory.

Well actually, we can't say for sure if the slayer line actually went through Faith, it's just an assumption we always made. Of course, I think it is like tha, but let's not jump to premature conclusions!

What you suggest does make sense in this case, but it raises one difficult problem: Chances are, some slayer before Buffy died of a mystical death. And if that ever happened (and with the numerous amount of slayers that accumulated over the years, it would be surprising if it didn't), the slayer line would be gone for ever.

Yep, but we never got info on that one on screen in the show - so it's not canon, just Joss' personal theory. 😉

I think it's safe to say the slayer line runs through Faith. After Buffy died, the line continued on through Kendra, then she died so now it's onto Faith. If there wasn't already a whole bunch of slayers, her death would cause a new slayer to be called.

I also think the Slayer line runs through Faith now. First it was Buffy, then Kendra, then Faith. I think Faith is the Slayer now. Buffy is alive just by chance. Just because Xander performed CPR. I don't think Buffy "counts" you know what I mean? She is still a slayer but normally she belongs to the past. It is a miracle and an innovation that she is alive.

Yeah, Joss Whedon & Marti Noxon have repeatedly stated on several occasions that in order for another Slayer to be called Faith would have die. That's good enough for me.
