Robb Stark
King in the North
I left home a little while ago to head to ASU for school. Vancouver to Arizona is a long way, so I decided to go off on my own for a while. A lot had happened at home, in more than a few different areas, so I couldn't get away fast enough. I packed up my car and headed south.
I didn't really have any set game plan, so I just kind of wandered. I went to Las Vegas for a few days before heading over to L.A. I was on my own, which was how I wanted it. I've always looked to Buffy and Angel as a kind of support, but over the last year or so it's been a full blown therapy.
So where was I going to go? I headed to Torrance High, which is where all the Sunnydale High scenes were filmed. It was awesome. It was so, so cool to be right up close to what was such a huge part of the show. I know it's just a school, but it was really neat to see (would have uploaded pictures but I have yet to figure out how to do that, so...). The front of the school, the court yard, all of it. After Sunnydale High I went into downtown L.A. and hunted down the Hyperion Hotel from Angel, which also very cool. Seeing both of those places was, as silly as it may sound, really special, almost like a Buffy pilgrimage or something 😛
But you know what? I went down there just desperate to escape, pretty much just running away, but when I got there, after a while, I kind of figured out that the world just isn't a big enough place to run away from your problems. I don't know, just being around places that I'd seen on T.V. almost everyday, I think I learned some of the best things from Buffy, or maybe realized them more. I kinda had my "Anne" episode, if that makes any sense (I didn't become a waitress though🙂). Truth is, Buffy was right. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it, but that doesn't mean you have to do it alone. I don't have a ton of friends, but I have a couple really good ones, and I didn't treat them right with the way I left. The same with my parents. I don't think this makes the weight of the world just go away, but it's a bit of a comfort I suppose, finally figuring out that I'm not alone.
So there's my speech I guess. Part rant, part vent. Hope I didn't sound too ridiculous.
Has Buffy/Angel helped you guys at all with tough stuff in life?
