About Virtual Season 8

I had avoided this thread until the finale aired in the UK, as I did not want to be spoiled. Hence the reason you have not seen me in this thread before. However I am serious about this project. Just been scanning through this thread and thought I'd raise some points.

Regarding structure. We do need it to help it run smoothly, however having a 'committee' of sorts may not work out, remember that this is for everyone, not just people who are here in the beginning to decide, which has been said several times by Buffy. So before we decide to go down the committe road it would be best to look at some alternatives we have available to us.

No denying the fact that this is a big project so we need to make things clear from the start. Someone previously mentioned (sorry cant recall who) that we should re-write the finale. I disagree with this, I think we should leave it as it is and take it from there. So where do we go from here? (cheap dig from OMWF)

One suggestion is that we use the poll function on the boards. Everyone has different ideas regard the big bad, the location, even to what characters we have in the show, thus the only way I see we do it fairly is to vote, that way we all get to have our say and it does not lead to friction later down the line between people. We would have to agree to go with the census.

The same would work for storyline arcs, ideas could be submitted and then put up for the vote and then once we have a winner, then the scripts can be written and again voted for.

We could have a forum for the poll section, that way keeping it seperate from the discussion section, and should there be an occasion where there is a draw, then a new poll will be created with just those two options and it has to be voted on again, with people choosing one of the two. I also suggest we have a time limit on the voting, a few days a week etc.

Feel free to comment, and further suggestions. I just dont think we should commit ourselves to one idea straight away without exploring the options.

I think Faith has a good idea. With the voting everyone would be able to be a part of season 8. Have the polls up for 3 days. We need a list of script writers. I say we go with the poll idea and start deciding who the big bad will be, where it will be set and who will be in it.

I like the idea of having a list of script writers, that way we would have a record of it, and when new people join they can simply be added to the list.

I like the idea of voting things as far as the Big Bad and the general arc of the season. This way everyone can make their voice heard as to what goes on. 🙂

As for the script writing and whatnot, is this going to be in regular story format or like shooting script format? Sorry if this question has already been asked, I have a bad memory and I got like zero sleep last night.

I also think that the script writers should submit a sample of their writing or something just so we know that everyone on the project can write well. Not to sound snobbish or anything but writing quality is a big deal in projects like this. I used to be in tons of play by email RPGs back in the day and I would have to submit huge applications to get to play a certain character, and this was so the people running the RPGs could be sure that I was a decent writer and would fit in with molding the story.

Ok...that's it. I need a nap.

No you do have a point, before they can be added to the script writers list then they should submit an sample. That way we can avoid people signing up and not returning.

As for the format of the script I believe that Buffy said previously that it was going to be in shooting format.

I think the voting way is the only way to go.

It would be nice to have a little more structure...but in the long run it is only a fan run season 8....if it strays a bit from the way Buffy works, then its not the end of the world. I think the point is more to bring fans together and make the best season 8 possible. If doing it the best means that there is a bit less structure, then so be it.

I think an overall scheme for the season should be voted on. let every little detail be voted on. that way everyone gets a say, and there is still a bit of structure to hold the writers together.

Ok when doe's the voting begin? I think we should first vote on which characters will be in our season 8. Then people should put their ideas for a big bad across and we vote again.

What I thought we might do (and I will also run this one past Buffy for her opinion) is to do a mass mail about the virtual season 8. Since the finale has aired in both the US and the UK, thus letting people know that we are starting something new.

What we could do is have a thread where people suggest characters, and once we have the suggestions then we do a poll. We can also at the same time run another thread of the same nature but with regards to the big bad.

What do you think?

Are you sure that's the right thing? I mean, I'm pretty sure Australia and New Zealand haven't gotten the finale yet.

I'd hate to see people get spoiled.

I think voting would be good cause I have some ideas and letting ppl express them then voting on what we want so their wont be any big arguing

So...are we back to the humus or going with the vote on everything idea?

'Cause I'm actually leaning toward the humus.

(that was a joke btw. Definately like the voting thing)

Hi guys, I'm a brand spanking new member to the forums and I found myself very interested in this virtual season 8 idea. I am very serious when I say that I want to be involved in this. I'm more of a novel writer, so I don't think I can write scripts. But I'm told I'm very good with structuring, pacing, and helping form storylines. Who exactly do I PM if I want to help out with that part of writing?

But there are a few things that caught my eye on this thread. First of which is the deciding who will be on the mainstay cast list. One thing that needs to be considered is that Joss Whedon himself said that he likes having only five or six ensemble cast. So basically, you have to consider that there was already enough "extra" characters at the end of the series, with only a few new openings on the cast with the deaths of the finale (trying not to spoil). So logically, a few will have to be recurring like Giles in the last two seasons, and only about one or two can really jump on.

And another thing about this whole thing is that I know it will should include the stuff that we want to see. But you also have to consider all of the loose threads that were left at the end of the series. In my opinion, that should be a HUGE priority, because there were so many unanswered questions. Those issues should come before killing Kennedy off right away and having Oz come back as Willows lover (although a scenario I really want to see) Let me just bring up these loose ends from the series as a whole. First the biggest one of em all:

"Buffy Won't choose you, she'll be against you" Joyce warning- This was a big cliffhanger in the middle of season 7 and it never really got answered. Let's not make the same make mistake that Mutant Enemy made, and I say this should be a big priority to sum this prophecy up. I have a few ideas that I will PM to whoever I am supposed to PM to.

Alot of damn slayers now- There will have to be after effects to the spell at the finale. How will the scoobs go about finding these girls is another big question that should be answered.

Buffy's humanity- Remember in season 6 it was revealed that Buffy lost a little bit of her humanity? She never officially got it back. Again, that would be another fun thing to play around with.

Ethan Rayne- His last appearance was in season 4, I just think he needs another check up on. Again, I have an idea for this that I will PM to whoever.

Oz- Eh, again, we haven't seen him since season 4, he needs a better swan song than the way he left.

The Invisible Army- This one is going way back to season 1. But in the episode Out mind out of sight it is revealed at the end that the goverment is training an invisible army for assination and stuff. That is something I was hoping that they would get back to someday.

Yeah, I know very thoughtful for a new guy and I hope I'm not being a know it all by sticking my new nose into this. But I just thought that it would seem right to kind of point those plot threads out to make it run smoothly with the rest of the series instead of making it seem like the other "season 8's" that have been popping up all over the place. But seriously who do I PM my ideas to? Because this is a really cool idea.

please, anyone who wrote an alternative season 7 or anything past that, please, please, please, send me all your work. I would love you forevor!

thanks, and my email is frogheadache@attbi.com

sincerely yours,

So here's my two cents worth...

I like the voting idea both on the overall story arc and the main characters. It will give people who dont have time or ability to contribute actual writing to still have a voice. Maybe we could propose mini arcs for our voting pleasure as well (like the Buffy werewolf idea) or having a civilized break up between Willow and Kennedy (please, soon like now).

I also like the idea of electing some Josses, 3 is my opinion, not too many to encourage heavy fighting, but always a tie breaker. Maybe they could choose one to be the ulitimate authority in case of unreconcilable dissent.

Also an idea I think might help with all the extra people and unknown location... Deep Space nine worked out really well with an almost seperate second cast (Rom, Lita, Garak...) perhaps that could be done here too, or even three casts and locations, one main one in you know where the other you know what is (sorry, not sure how to do the spoilery thingy) and one on the move looking for the you know whats. That way more people could contribute more different ideas that wouldn't have to mesh all that much until the big climax.

Also I love the idea of following up old story lines like the invisible coverts, the mayor's family (maybe a whole mess of scary step fords?), Tara, Pike, Amy (please be Willow's nemesis), Clem... And the loose threads.

By the way would anyone think it would be cool for Xander's seeing power to be enhanced by his whole one eye thing, kinda like G'Kar in Babylon 5? not a seer of the future so much as of what is hidden in plain sight, or on the other side of the veil? There is some myth that could be played with that from at least two cultures I know of.

I would love to see the big bad be female. The only one (for a whole season) was Glory. I don't count Drusilla because she was over shawdowed by first Spike and then Angelus, and VeinyWillow and Faith were late comers. Like the Lilith idea. Lots of fun with Judeo-Xian myth.

One more...crossover with Charmed. Maybe Willow could get a whitelighter now that things (the source of her power) seem to be a bit different with her...Tara perhaps?

I did this last year with a Virtual Season 6 of Buffy and a Virtual Season 4 of Angel. It went really well and we came up with great ideas, the problem is though that Buffy has so many characters, and it is basically fitting like 9 guys on screen and then having dialogue for all of them. Something like this is must easier for Angel when you have a much smaller cast (although it is growing). It can be done though, I think we shoudl jsut trim out some people that aren't essential. I'd like to be involved though.

I think the key thing to remember (no Dawn pun intended) is that as the fans we have to look at it from Joss' point of view kind of. I mean, the fun thing with Joss was he almost never gave the fans exactly what they wanted. It's what kept us coming back for more.

Also, we need to leave things open. Some of the best things that came from Buffy weren't pre-decided. (ex. Jenny being a gypsy)

yeah that was what i was wondering because if been writing scripts and stuff long long and this looks very promosing so can people still join?
