Almost from the moment that the final credits began to roll at the end of "Chosen," the fans have bantered, argued, discussed, and just plain cussed that last conversation that Buffy and Spike had there in the hellmouth. (Did she mean it? Did she not mean it? HOW did she mean it? Did he really believe her? Why? Why not?) Now, with Buffy and Spike being back together in Season 9, do you think that there will ever be a moment when they will clarify that statement once and for all, or will Joss, in true Joss fashion, simply ignore it and get on with the new story?

If Season 9 is supposed to be devoted more to the characters and their relationships and interactions than Season 8 was, I think that this is one of main things that I would like to see settled, once and for all, one way or the other.

He won't offer a definitive answer. He will provide hints and evidence and the fans can interpret it as we like.

To me, these questions have been answered categorically in S8. But that's just me 😉

No. The Spuffy relationship is built on sublty and Joss is not the kind of person/writer/creater to straight up have either say anything about it directly, although I'd love that. I think Kean's right, he'll offer subltle hints that we, the fans, are to interpert.

Although I think it's already been clarified by the "Buffy was in love with Spike when their hands collapsed" quote.

No, Joss wants to perpetually bait and string along the Bangel, Spuffy and (since the Retreat arc) Bander shippers.

Yeah, it's almost like he's afraid that we'll quit coming back for more if Buffy ever makes a definite commitment to any one person.
I'm with thw The Unspoken on this one. Aside from the fact I don't think it needs to be cleared up, because it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to me, Joss isn't going to come out and do anything that steps towards making a final decision about the 'ships because he knows its one of the things he can milk for eternity as opposed to actually telling about the story he wants to tell.

And I'm guessing that those of us who have 'cussed' it are those who don't agree with the Spuffy interpretation? 😉😛

I've curssed in my room to wall about people who don't see it my way... Obviously not to those people because that would be rude, but ranting about it to myself, sure.

Where did you hear that Spike and Buffy were back together? Did you hear they were going to date again?

Sorry, bad choice of words. I meant to say "WORKING together," as in appearing in the same book.

They're not dating again, but they're "back together" in the sense that they're working together and are (sort of) in each other's lives. I think it was Scott Allie who, in response to a question about whether or not Spike will be getting his own title/mini-series in Season 9, mentioned that Spike will be too busy in Buffy's book for that. It sounds like he means they'll be working together a lot, but then again it could mean something else. We'll have to see, but I think most likely it's the first one.
