Personally, I don't care much for awards. I'd find it cool, if a movie I like won an award, but I wouldn't mind if it didn't.
I think it's weird, though, that Tintin didn't get a nomination for best animated film. I think it was awesome!
But at least John Williams got nominated for both War Horse and Tintin. I hope Tintin wins, 'cause its music is truly amazing.

What do you think?
 
I used to love to watching the Academy Awards, especially being the film buff that I am. I haven't watched mostly any other those movies listed except for a couple. I was wondering why Drive wasn't nominated for best picture. IMO, it was brilliant. A lot of people didn't get that film. Ryan Gosling was excellent in it, reminded me of a young Robert De Niro in one of my favorite movies, Taxi Driver. And the best actress award should almost always go to the Queen, Meryl Streep. Her perfomance was just awesome, as always. 😉

As a Swede I think it's fun to see Max Von Sydow being nominated.

But I haven't seen many of these movies so I don't have much of an opinion on who should win or anything like that lol

Meryl Streep has got to win Best Actress! She was amazing in the Iron Lady! Its good to see Melissa McCarthy nominated - she was hilarious in Bridesmaids!

I'm surprised Leonardo Di Caprio isn't nominated for J Edgar - I haven't seen it yet, but he's meant to be great in it!

And no TinTin for best Animated film???? That's deserved a nomination!

I'm glad to see Melissa McCarthy nominated. It's great to see someone who has put years and years worth of effort in get a chance to be in the spotlight and be regognized for her work.

I can't rep you anymore but yes. All of this. Why the hell isn't Drive nominated!?

Anyway, last year I had seen just about every film that was nominated but I slacked off this year ;( the only films up there that I've seen are The Tree of Life and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I watch the Oscars every year with my family but I'm less excited about it this year. Although I do love to look at everyone's dresses/rate them with my mom haha.

I haven't even seen TinTin and I'm also shocked that it isn't nominated.

They're (the AD) responsible for solidifying the vision of the collective imagination:flower2:
 
What a joke, Drive was the best movie of the year IMO. but of course The Tree of Life got nominated... pretentious nonsense.
And if Rooney Mara wins for her perfomance in the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo haha! I might just throw up.
And really, Midnight In Paris for best picture ? wtf

It really is a joke. This isn't about talent at all. Rooney Mara made the list (though she did do a decent job) and Tilda Swinton didn't?? No Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling or Leo DiCaprio? And George Clooney is so gonna clean out. I'd love it if The Artist won it all ha!
 
I think that Oscars get "thrown around" way too much.
There are too many categories and too few movies that deserve being nominated, but they have to give the award to someone, anyway.
So they just give it to a movie that doesn't deserve it. And that makes the Oscars (and the Grammys as well) much less special.

Well, but there are still some movies that would deserve the award. Drive could deserve one. I haven't watched it yet, though, but it's on my list.
 
Harry Potter got robbed. It does every year. It should have at least been nominated for Best Picture. It's tons better then a lot of the crap that was nominated and this was it's last chance.

Well, I wouldn't say "at least." Best picture is pretty much the most important award.
 
So glad to see Melissa McCarthy and Jonah Hill were nominated! Nice to see some "normal" people amongst a group of snobbish actors that take themselves entirely too seriously.

I also agree Harry Potter should've been nominated for Best Picture. I figured because they got robbed every year, maybe they were waiting for the final movie to come out. Apparently not. I still don't get how and why they nominate certain actors and movies? It's almost like they take a list of movies and pick out the most odd and non-popular movies and make them out to be fantastic. Just don't get it. Rant over 🙂
 
Awful, awful, awful. Nothing for Tilda Swinton or Drive? Unbelievable. And the fact that Extremely Trite and Incredibly Cloying was even considered (much less nominated!) for anything ruins the entire Academy's credibility in my eyes.

There are always crappy movies nominated, sometimes even nothing but crappy movies that don't deserve the award. 🙁
Personally, I'd just leave the categories out that don't have worthy nominees, but the people from the Academy can't do that.
