Ok, so this has kinda been bugging me for awhile.

So Buffy stabbed Angel.

Couldn't she have given Angel the sword, have him turn around, and stab the statue? He wouldn't have died.

Or, he wouldn't have went to hell.

This is my question: Couldn't she have given Angel the sword, have him turn around, and stab the statue? 🙂lmao🙂

As I remember, they clearly state in the episode that it's only Angels blood that close the portal (can't find the quote now though, hm).

Angel...or Angelus...used his blood to open the portal, so only his blood could close it.

the real question is...did she REALLY have to send him through the portal, couldn't she just cut him a little, spill his blood and close the portal that way?

I've always wondered that too as it would make more sense just to cut him a little, no?
Ok, thanks guys I KNEW I was missing something! Lol.

And I agree with Lyri. Couldn't she have done that, too?

I think the portal was opened way too much. Maybe if it had been tiny or something, they could have closed it quickly with a bit of blood, but it was so big...and nearly fully open...I think. Hmm not sure.

Oh come on....if it just needed a bit of blood, and that is way they ended it I would have been very disappointed. It would have been very anticlimatic. I watch this ep again last sunday, and I reazlied at point, is when I really knew Buffy was gonna be an amazing show.

Whistler says this: (not directly quoted, though)

"Angels blood is the key. His blood opens the door to Hell. And only his will close it. One blow will send them both back to Hell."

One blow gives the impression that it couldn't have been just a drop of blood, but Angel had to be killed in order to stop Acathla.

Ya, a blow is def more then just some spilliage. It had to be more than that.
🙁

I think it might work the same as in s5 with the portal,Buffy and Dawn
Dawn:Blood starts it, and until the blood stops flowing, it'll never stop.
that might have been why

I thinks to spill little bit of blood, looks bit like cheating. I mean all the misterious ways are built around sacrifice as a way to bring equilibrium, and as Rack said: to get a little, you need to give a little...and since Angelus was toying with Apocaliptical portals I think it wouldn´t be closed by a droplet.
The price for stopping and making magics is always high...

How about this? To open the portal, blood must be spilled on this (as in the earthly) side. To close it, the blood has to be spilled on the opposite (hell dimension) side. In that case, just cutting Angel wouldn't have worked from where he stood, he had to pass or be shoved through the portal to close it from the other side (besides, it was a great plot device: Buffy kills someone she loved to save the world. Too bad she couldn't have done that in Season 5 and eliminated the brat.)

It was too late. Acathla (or, as Buffy called him, "Al Franken") had already been activated, and so the only way to stop him was to kill Angel.

How do you stab a statue ?, what was it made of ?.

It wasnt a statue that was stabed it was acathla in demon flesh
Angelus says it in Becoming psrt 1

Angelus : He was killed by a virtuous knight who pierced the demon's
heart before he could draw a breath to perform the act. Acathla turned
to stone,

hope that helped

I agree, a virtuous knight plunged his/her sword into Acathla and it became stone.
Thing is if that is so, then it would have been stone when Buffy stabbed it.

I hadnt thought of that. But i dont think she would have needed to stab the statue. She stabbed angel and that stopped the vortex. And if angel hadnt started it there would have been no need to try and stop acathla yet.

unless u ment something else

You got it right.
Your sentence ' And if Angel hadn't started it etc...

I can imagine Spike telling him off, ' Your a naughty boy !'
