Accent

it isnt hes from california if im not mistaken, it isnt a bad accent ive heard better, the way he says poof annoys me its not poof its different but difficult to explain. and welcome to the world of buffu.

Yeah my Dad thought Spike was English and My Dad is English lol.
What was my Dad doing watching Buffy you ask? He had no choice is my reply! 😛

It took me a feew eps to decide if he was english or not but i kinda knew from the start it is quite convincing, i think angels irish accent is better tho. Does anyoen know if Holtz is really english im %95 certain he is its just too good to not be english, and damn freaky might i say, its far too husky he should quit smoking me thinks

For the first three seasons I thought it was real too then I saw him on Hollywood Squares and heard him speak! I was like Wow! He has a very convincing accent on the show! LOL 😀

He does the english accent really well on Buffy. I found out he wasn't english from one of my mates and I couldn't believe it. About a week later I saw him getting interviewed and I was really amazed of how different he sounds!

No, the accent isn't real, but it's more believeable than most (remember Kevin Costner in Robin Hood? LOL!!)

James, as many of you know, was born in Greenville California. Then when he was real little, his family moved to Modesto, CA - where he grew up (and went to High School, etc.).

Any voice he wants to use - English or American - is just fine with me. He's precious!

I could tell from the start that his accent wasn't real (I'm from South east England). It is pretty good but little things give him away!

[Like Catdog said - the way he says poof is not right! If he was really English he wouldn't pronounce it 'pouf' (with a long 'ooo' sound) but poof (a short 'oo' sound) like I've heard some Americans pronounce hoof]

I do like his accent though, although sometimes he goes from cockney to scouser (sounding a bit like John Lennon).

On the subject of English words - did anyone find it funny in Tabula Rasa when Anya said 'Shut up you brolly' to Giles? I just think it was weird that they used umbrella as an insult!! LOL!

He does it pretty good, not too exacgurated. Not that it's difficult, cuz if I talk English (I'm dutch) I have a harder time talking American than the British, Spike, Giles and Wesley use.

It must be hard. If I tried to put on an American accent I'd probably sound ridiculous!!

I have no idea if Holtz's accent is real but if it isn't he does a good job of it. I'll do some surfing for you catdog and let you know if I come up with anything 🙂

Double Post: -

It's been tough as he doesn't have his own web page but here is a biography which says be was born in the US. Whether or not he has lived in the UK at all to get an English accent I can't find out...

Keith Szarabajka (Holtz) Biography

Does Holtz have an British accent? Okay he doesn't sound too American, but British, I though Holtz was supossed to be from France, or if I look at his namen German ... yeah, he's probably german!

Angel's Irish accent is lame! I have a few Irish friends and they sound completely different.
JM however is doing a great job, even though a touch of american comes through now and then. At least he does not have the typical mid-west or a southern US accent, but I guess that is a result of his extensive training as an actor.

Do they get trained in that sort of things as actors ? ... hmm I didn't know. If I wanna learn an accent, I just watch a movie with it in it! Simple as that! but then again, I don't get paid as much as them (I don't get paid for it at all)

Angel's Irish accent is lame! JM definitely does an excellent job. I guess you have to take into consideration that DB hasn't has as much (if any?) training.

I think Holtz is supposed to be English, that's what it sounds like to me. It doesn't sound German in the slightest. The name does sound German but he definitely doesn't!!
