Actual Butterbeer - pretend you're Harry Potter!

Ooooh i'm totally going to try this....although my cooking record...is atrocious to say the least!! But i'll give it a go 🙂

Ooh was that show on like yesterday...or possibly the day before...and he made a bangers and mash look a like dessert thing??

In case anyone's interested....paperdoll and I are going to make butterbeer tonight 😀

We'll keep you updated on how it works out.

Its got to be proper ale and not fizzy cold lager!
And if you could take pictures of the stages and let us know what its like - that would be awesome!

I love you two girls by the way!

I always thought Butterbeer sounded like a lovely winter drink. I so want to try it one time. 😀

Okay, we did it! It does taste quite nice, and it's really easy. The only thing is, you have to be really quick with the whisking after you've added the egg yolks. I wasn't quite fast enough so it already started to scramble. But we put it through a sieve before pouring it in our glasses and all was fine. As the butter part in butterbeer already suggest, it is quite fatty, and heavy. And it tastes best when it's still warm. I guess it is best for winter.

Note on the alcohol: I think most of it did dissapear when we heated it. But it's definitely not all gone, so minors beware (sw)

Anyways, here's the photolog:

And for the egg whites, we didn't want to waste it. So, meringues! The recipe: Egg whites, lots of sugar, whisk till it's stiff and there's no liquid left, make funny shapes, put them in the oven (low temperature, ca 130 celsius) for until they're are slightly brown, cool down outside the oven till they're more or less solid.

This is me doing my best Nigella Lawson impersonation:

Cangel was only slightly less convincing:

The beer really is quite nice, though it did thrash my plans of finishing my paper tonight. I'll just might as well go to bed now and get up early and write it then...

I knew I loved you guys!

Well I will hopefully be doing this soon - don't want to do it by myself and I don't plan to have friends around for a while.

So, fattening and tasty?

LOVELY!

Ohh and while I too like pictures 7, 8 and 9 I have to say the last one is my favourite - love a good ass shot!

haha, i just noticed the sw in the last one! haha! Brilliant!

Haha, great pictures, gals!

I want Butterbeer now, your series of photos were like a blatant advertisement!

Must...have...Butterbeer.

Yeah, i'm gonna try this butterbeer thing. Cool pics by the way ladies. 🙂

*gasp*
I always suspected it might be partially alcohol. When Winky gets repeatedly drunk off of it, Ron says, "But it's not strong, that stuff." Which made me think it WAS alcohol, just not strong alcohol.

Even so...JK!!!! How could you?

InsaneMystic agrees: what's that maths based on? you have a pound-to-galleon exchange guide somewhere?

Well, Jo once said that one Galleon was worth around five Pounds Sterling. This was the exchange rate used to price the Comic Relief books in Galleons too. From there you can work down to Sickles and Knuts.

Of course, Jo has never claimed to be good with maths. There are some discrepencies - such as why the Weasley's had only £5 at the start of CoS, and how they managed to buy stuff for FIVE children going to Hogwarts with it, but it's been semi-retconned that way. Although, I can't see Gringotts giving out 100% mortgages and the Wizarding World going into economic meltdown, so perhaps the Galleon is much stronger now? :silly:

Someone, please, shut me up!
