I don't know why so many people hate Bangel. I use to hate Spuffy, but a few months ago I gave it another chance and realized I like the idea of ensouled Spike and Buffy but not Spuffy in S5 or S6 of BTVS. It's just Bangel feels believable to me whereas Spuffy because of James and Sarah feels somewhat fake to me, IMO they don't have all that good acting chemistry

I'm alittle bit more Spuffy, but I still like Bangel too and I know that my fellow Spuffies don't hate Bangel at all. In this thread the Bangels are trying to convince the Spuffies to like Bangel and the Spuffies are trying to convince the Bangels to like Spuffy.

I'm trying to convince Eleftheria to be a Spuffy too, but she keeps shining the Bangel light in my face:eek2::smile3:.

And also, I disagree with you on how James and Sarah don't have good acting chemistry, because they have wonderful acting chemistry and so does Sarah and David.

The idea of Bangel is just too fluffy

Because I know in my heart and soul
That Spuffy is the only ship for me

The story of Spuffy is complex

Okay, okay. I wasn't planning on revealing my OTP for a long time, but this thread made it too tempting.

I'm very strange when it comes to relationships on shows, as I'm never static in liking the same type of relationship. Sometimes I root for the underdog, sometimes I don't; depending on the situation, the script, the chemistry, etc.

As I wrote in another thread, I appreciate all the relationships on BtVS, but I do have my preferences. With that said, my OTP is Buffy and...

I do, however, believe that Buffy loved Spike romantically in Season Seven. I mean, I don't snuggle up with my guy friends like that.

I think that Bangel and Spuffy have a lot of similarities, even though essentially they're very different. Of course, which one you prefer is entirely rooted in, well, preference! So obviously it won't ever go anywhere. But hey, debate is always fun. It's almost philosophical. 😛

The philosophy of it all is really what gets to me actually.

I mean, every topic about Spike and Buffy is going to degenerate into "can a soulless being love?" I've read so many threads about that it's just annoying and gives me a headache.

Though I think Spike loved her, just like he loved Drusilla. The problem is that he loved them and those close to them but that's as far as his capacity for empathy went.

Basically he's the Mayor. The Mayor loved Faith but would gladly kill thousands. Spike loved Buffy and Buffy's immediate family but it didn't make him not a killer.

Of course I've heard all the counter points a million times over. "Just because he endured horrible torture form Glory to keep Dawn safe doesn't mean he loves Buffy. It just means he's selfish and knew Buffy wouldn't love him if he gave Dawn up."

It seems to me people are too idealistic. Everything we do and say is selfish in some way. Speaking of philosophy, love is a very selfish thing from my point-of-view.

But this is getting off-topic. My point is that there will never be an end to the debates because it's a differences of beliefs. Dredge up all the canon evidence you want. It won't make any difference since it can always be interpreted another way thus proving it invalid to your opposition.

Oh and I ship Bangel because I think it's true love. But I won't ever argue it because it's a colossal waste of time. You either believe or you don't.

"sigh" I can accept the Bangel's but I have my points that for me make Spike truiumph over them big time. Big Spuffy shipper here, and you all know that. I'd Adopt a Bangel anytime.

Now that's a little unfair. Just because Spuffy love wasn't the same as Bangel love doesn't mean it wasn't love. I'm a Tillow shipper and I will be 'till I die... I believe Tara and Willow were made for each other, they were soulmates. However, I'm not going to sit here and pretend Willow didn't love Oz... because she did. It was just... different.

Same goes for Spuffy and Bangel. Yes, Angel was Buffy's first love... the deepest love she'd ever known and Spike's love took a journey... but that's what makes Spuffy's love so incredible. It's not about the surface of their relationship. It's not about the "here and now." It's about the "where we've been." It's about looking back at that 16 going on 17 year old girl fighting that rather young rambunctious vampire on a Thursday night at a school function because he "just couldn't wait until Saturday." And then flashing forward to the beautiful and well-rounded 22 year old woman fighting side by side with a vampire who "risked everything to be a better man" and became a Champion.

Spike never treated Buffy like a child as he did Dru. One of the reasons Spike loved Dru was because he still saw "a bit of child in her," as he mentions in "Destiny." So, I think Spike loved Buffy, but not in the same way he loved Dru. Buffy was a "hell of a woman," far from being a child. The problem was when he first realized he loved Buffy, he didn't really know how to express it.

Yes, but that was Spike's whole inner struggle. The Mayor never tried to be good, but Spike did, especially from "Intervention" onward.

I don't think Spike was selfish at all when he endured torture from Glory. When he thought Buffy was the BuffyBot, he could have told her that the reason he didn't tell Glory was because if Glory found out, Buffy would never love him. But, he didn't. Quite the opposite! He said he didn't tell Glory because if Glory found out and Dawn was hurt, it would destroy Buffy. Spike couldn't bear to see her in that much pain. His selfless act moved Buffy so much that she kissed him 🙂 And, IMO, there are all types of love, and true and real love is not selfish 🙂

Yep, the debate will never end, but that's the fun 🙂 It's okay if you ship Bangel (for now, lol), but know we Spuffies are willing to adopt-a-bangel whenever they are ready to come to the light 😀 Besides, we have freshly baked cookies 😀

On the Buffybot, thing in Intervention, I wished they explained that perhaps, he couldn't use his vampire smell because he'd been tortured or something because if not he would have known that it was the real Buffy, right? This said, I can't see Spike being this manipulative. From a narrative perspective it wouldn't make sense to have him endure torture and then lie to Buffy to get in her pants. Doesn't sit right with me.

Vampires don't breathe but I'm guessing their physiology is mostly the same. Which means taking a sniff would inflate his chest and if memory serves that's where Glory was digging around.

So he probably was trying to avoid having his mutilated front and innards moving about.
Hence no smelling.
