I know that we've been told that Season 9 will take place at least a few years after the end of Season 8, that it will almost certainly be Buffy's final season, and that it won't be as long as Season 8, but have any more details been released or even hinted at?

(And I hope that that "Buffy's final season" thing isn't true)

Actually - I hadn't even heard that Season 9 would be set a few years beyond Season 8. Much less that it may be the final Season of BtVS.

I was actually surprised that Buffy was coming back for a season 9. My thoughts were that Buffy was going to come back for one final season so that we could have the ending that Buffy deserves.
Season 9 will probably be the end however if a season 10 does happen I will be overjoyed as I just cannot get enough Buffy!

I'll definitely wait how - if - the current S8 Bangel/Twuffy mess gets sorted out before I think about S9 at all. As it stands now, there's a significant risk involved that I won't be bothered to care anymore about where the story goes, by then.

(btw... anyone else have the feeling the producers of the Angel comics are foaming at their mouths thinking of Joss Whedon and S8, right now? 😀 )

From what I've read, IDW is not very hapopy with Joss and Dark horse.
Stuff we've been told about season 9:

* It's definitely happening, will be canon, and will be Executive Produced by Joss.

* It's supposed to start in summer or fall 2011, but that could change based on how busy Joss is.

* It will be shorter than season 8 (maybe half as long) and will focus on fewer characters.

* It will reflect major changes to the Buffyverse after season 8 and the characters will be facing "a much different landscape," though whether that's meant literally or figuratively is unknown.

* Joss will keep a tighter rein on the story to avoid long sidetrack periods, to minimize continuity errors, and to keep the story more focused. He mentioned using a "writer's room" format of working closely with the season's writers, of which there will probably be fewer than in season 8.

* Nothing's been said about season 9 being the end, and Joss has no current plans to end Buffy's story. There are no plans yet beyond season 9 because nobody knows what Joss's schedule will be like that far ahead. Scott Allie has said Dark Horse doesn't plan to do any more Buffy comics without Joss's direct involvement.

Thanks for the info, Andrew.
Okay - now my interest is peaked(after reading Andrew's post) for Season 9.

But still I think we also need to see how Season 8 ends.

YOU JUST GOT SLAPPED

What is this feeling
That's put you in your place?
A hot red burning on the side
Of your face.
You feel the blood rush to your cheek,
Tears start to fill your eyes.
Your lips are trembling but you can't speak
You're trying, oh you're trying not to cry.
Ya just got slapped
Across the face my friend.
Ya just got slapped
Yes that really just happened.
Well, everybody saw it, hah
Everybody laughed and clapped.
"˜Cause it was awesome.
The way that you just got slapped.

I know I'll giving season 9 a chance. Hopefully it won't be the end, but if season 9 is to be the last comic book series, maybe we'll get graphic novels once or twice a year?
